Martin F, How I TAC (now show me the freebies)
Hey TAC Family!!!
1.) How many days per week do you play?
Currently I’m playing 7 days a week just because I’m super psyched and I’m running with it whilst I can. This may not be sustainable especially when my work load ramps up once lockdown has lifted. This used to be an obstacle for me as I used my work as an excuse to not commit to learning the guitar, but now I’m just recognising this as something to overcome. So my new plan is to commit to 6 days a week 30 mins. Everything else is a bonus. ( for the last 3 months most days I’ve been playing for at least 2hrs a day)
2.) What time of day do you play?
I’m happy with my current routine I’ve developed I certainly don’t feel like ‘oh I’ve got to play’ I want to play! Mon-fri I get up extra early 5:00Am walk the dog then get back and make my breakfast, whilst I’m having my breakfast I will watch the daily lesson and try take in as much as I can, then I will have between 20-30 mins play. First I will do the current warm up for 10 mins to the metronome working on accuracy with an aim to increase speed. Then I will work on the lesson and if it’s a good One usually end up late for work. After work I will play for at least an hour either working on a skill, lesson or a song
3.) Where do you play?
I currently play in our living room, it’s a cool relaxed room to be in. I have a chair and a music stand for my iPad and sheet music. An ideal situation would be dedicated room but this works well and my partner can’t complain as she has a whole room for her office and library so I get my corner.
4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).
Before TAC my guitar routine was Non existent. I’ve always owned and dreamed about playing the guitar but just never known how to learn or just knuckled down and got on with it. Every now and again I’d pick it up try learn a song or a method eventually get frustrated then put it aside again. November last year I downloaded a different app which really helped get me going, it was one of the computer game style ones. It helped me start playing something that resembles music quite easily but after a while I felt I wasn’t learning music just getting good at the game. This is when I stumbled on TAC and since then I have learnt and developed so much every day I’m having lightbulb moments and the routine and consistency is helping me realise life long dream to play the guitar. Whilst a little part of me regrets not starting earlier the other part of me thinks I wasn’t ready then and I am now grateful I have had the fire lit and for the possibility’s.
5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine?
My dog chilli’s company no matter how bad I play she seems to find it relaxing and just snoozes next to me
