  • No more thud!

The G chord “thud” has been troubling me for several months. (I am still in 30 Days program but started with other online instruction in January this year). I was searching through the forum on “chord transitions” and landed on this https://tonypolecastro.com/family-forums/topic/i-cant-play-the-g-chord/#post-2147120. I experimented with some of the suggestions and by accident I stumbled on changing my grip to where I instantaneously stopped muting strings. And it helps me with the C, D, G, E, E-, A and B7 as well! Wow!

For me the secret was pushing my palm farther forward toward the back of the guitar neck so that my fingers can wrap around better and the finger tips are approaching the strings at a closer to vertical angle. I am not sure how I started playing with my Palm off the back. I think it was something I heard early on from an instructor other than Tony.

This has just catapulted me ahead now, because in one fell swoop it seems the muting problem is largely resolved.

Eehaw! Getting over a stumbling barrier is always great feeling.my major barrier I can’t quite seem to surpass is fingerpicking and playing a separate melody at the same time. I might croak before I beat it
