  • Palm muting

It seems like a small thing, but palm muting was IMPOSSIBLE for me just a few weeks ago. But today, it went really well. It’s amazing that just by playing every day, and trying different techniques, your body gets used to things and suddenly you can do them. I’m pleased.

I tend to be a stick in the mud only venturing out of my comfort zone occasionally. But I do find palm muting pretty cool. I’m using it in the old folk song “freight train “ and “girl from north country “

I agree Mr Fred. It is tough to move into territory where we are just no good. But that is how we improve right? Thanks for the comment.

A question regarding palm muting, do you rest your hand/palm on the strings then pick them or do you hit the note then mute it?

Hi @TedB– You made me try this again to answer your question. It seems like I am picking my palm up and dropping it down as I do my down strum. My palm hits the strings right in front of the saddle as I do the down strum. But it seems like it is always a combination of muting, and unmuting as I play. I hope that makes sense.
