  • Pattern, patterns

As my long belated journey to learn to play before I croak, there are many sub trips emerging. Of course the number 1 rule is to show up. But another thing I’m trying harder and harder to do is recognize patterns. Tony does a great job of bringing it our attention. This morning I was dabbling with Get Together by the Young Bloods a great hippie song from the 60s.its got all sorts of weird progressions and chords. I was so frustrated with some kind of Gsus2 thing that I was freaking. Suddenly I took Tony’s advice and notice it was almost the same pattern as I had just been messing with . Ta da! I could play it.this is my extremely long winded way of saying LOOK FOR PATTERNS!

Great win. I love the pattern’s because I don’t have to memorize all sorts of unique things. As I age, I appreciate muscle and stored memory rather than trying to use up that diminishing RAM. Lyrics are getting harder than the music. That is a good thing and makes me understand there is progress occurring.
