Newbie here: The pinkie on my fretting hand bends inwards toward the thumb. Any suggestions on how I can train/get it to aim more outwards?

Not an answer. I actually came here for the same reason. I am working on the Blues Boogie… (30 days to play) Tony barely needs to move his hand to fret the notes, meanwhile I have to make big moves in order for my fingers to reach. My fingers just seem to be pointed in the wrong direction… I’m sure they aren’t as they work in all other situations..

Is this normal? Are there exercises that help correct it? Is being all over the fret board okay and it will one day just be considered part of my style?

    Thanks…

I have a similar issue and even resorted to Googling pictures of hands to see if my pinkie looked unusually short. It is worth noting where Tony places his thumb. It appears his thumb is behind the neck, rather than over it. This seems to allow the whole fretting hand to rotate and make it easier (not easy) to reach the correct string with the pinkie.

This will get better with time.

I do finger stretching exercises every practice session and it has helped a lot. Tony also has a course on stretching to do when not using the guitar.
