I am not an old man. But this song really resonates with me. My mom is 86 and this year she has really begun to slow down. I am realizing how much of her “ageing” is a decision. Not all. But some for sure. My dad has been gone for 14 years and she no longer can live alone due to some health issues. She moved here to Missouri and left all of her friends. She’s tired and she’s lonely and she just wants it to all be over.

This song is in drop D, which makes it just so evocative. You will hear some small hiccups here. (That base note is super important. ) But I am really emotional about it. It is a bit high for my post menopausal alto voice. But I am learning not to take myself too seriously.

@lollyt – not familiar with this song but your rendition (written by Toby Keith), both guitar and vocal, is lovely. I’m trying my best to not “let the old man in”.

Very nice and heartfelt rendition. Thanks for sharing not only the song but your personal back story. We went through a “marginal decade” with both of our Moms that concluded in 2022. I can relate.

Albert_D it is very hard isn’t it? I am trying to tell myself to pay attention, and do what I have to do to stay young at heart.

That was lovely. The lyrics give me pause to think about ‘letting the old woman in’, which I contemplated for your whole rendition. Thank-you.

Thanks for the kind words. I was thinking that way as well. Obviously. I have an old woman in my house. And frankly, I am a bit concerned about how she is doing it. But she is 86 and I am 64. I guess she knows more about it than I do. But I hope when I am 86 that I can stay joyful and active and remember to savor the days.
