I am brand new to TAC. I am fairly new to playing guitar. My first exercise is “The Blues Shuffle.” When I clicked on play, the measures played are different than the tabs show. Tony plays the measures more times than what shows on the tabs. It is not easy to follow when I am trying to play the tabs, because they do not match up to what Tony is playing. Can someone help me with this frustration…..

I haven’t looked at that lesson in a long time, but I think the first thing the tab does is introduce the chords A, D, and E. Then it starts the 12 bar blues. There will be twelve measures. 4 A measures, 2 D measures, 2 A measures, 1 E measure, 1 D measure, and finally 2 A measures. (4+2+2+1+1+2=12). I haven’t watched the video again but that’s what the tab is doing. There are really two sections. A practice section first, then a song section. I hope I understand your question. You will come to love many variations of the 12 bar blues. Have fun.

    Hi Ds,

Same here…it confused the life out of me until I realize there were 8 beats to the measure. I was counting the measure as 4 beats in the beginning and was wondering why the counts were so off. Once I adjusted to an 8 beat measure, I was able to follow along with the TAB.

Also, the first row of the TAB contains the notes for the A, D and E section. Disregard the first row when Tony plays. He starts on the 2nd row and continues on to the end. Hopefully this helps you out.

On my 4th week here. I saw what you see in the lesson with the shuffle. Confused me. Tony starts out with the easiest 2 strings for us beginners to strum, the E & A. Once he gets us going on that then he drops down to the harder A & D, D & G, pairs of strings. You’ll see that in other lessons. The TABs aren’t going flow in the pattern as the lesson.

I got out a tablet with lines and draw up my own TAB for each lesson with fingers, frets, and strings. I can’t read music so don’t need the notes yet.
