the JOY of failing!!
one of the great things about being a tacian is the absolute JOY of failing! Through the years of dabbling and quitting and quitting and dabbling I made no progress. Darn, I cant do that. Ill try some other day (or month or year) There is so much support here that i feel free to fail and fall on my butt. results after 78 days: Im actually playing a song with a flat pick (not well yet). Ive invented a new run to open Polly Von , which I learned here. Im doing a miserable but fun job of palm muting Freight train. All just fun failures that are beginning to be small but growing successes. AND I playing everyday. im showing up! thanx to tac and its members

This is a great point of view in my opinion.
Sometimes I’ll start off some really brilliant🤨 thing I’m about to say with something like- “A really smart man once told me……..”
So, sort of along the lines of your viewpoint- (again🤨)——–
A REALLY experienced musician I know actually did once tell me- “You are ONLY going to be successful playing along with– or in front of– others…….. when “you fully accept the fact that it’s OK to make a complete fool of yourself.”
Smooth water never made for a good sailor— failing is good.

Great attitude, I need to adopt that for myself! Usually I abandon any kind of task or learning experience if I can’t attain some level of proficiency fairly quickly. Not that I expect to be an instant expert, but I find it hard to enjoy activities if I’m not at least somewhat competent. Which means I’ve probably missed out on a lot of fun in my days, alas. I am happy to say that the pattern didn’t hold with my guitar journey – I’m a long ways from feeling competent, but I’m sticking with it and having fun for the most part. Except for those @#$% barre chords!

I definitely understand cuz that’s how I have been for most of my life.I have switched to Martin authentic acoustic strings called silk and phosphor which make barre chords easier for me and my hd 28 loves them.

You are right. I have always been fearful of playing with others in case I make a fool of myself, but here I can play along and mess it up and no-one cares! And I am setting myself the target of at least playing at the x1 speed without messing it up and am just about getting there!
