  • The music in my life…

Posted by KenV on March 29, 2023 at 5:32 am

This past weekend, I took a 3 hour drive to my fathers ‘Celebration of Life’.
He passed away after a 59 year absence in my life. (Long story…)
I have no memories of him during his life, but learned a lot about him during my time there.
I now know that my love of music comes from him. He played pedal steel guitar (some of which he even made himself), lead guitar, and sang for several local bands in his life.
A half-brother whom I had met one time before, drove 9 hours to be there as well.
He has also been in various bands, playing guitar.
We spent 2 days in side by side motel rooms (which was unplanned, but entirely welcomed).

While visiting with him and his wife, he brought out his guitar and started playing.
A couple hours of singing together (and several laughs due to forgotten lyrics), and some incredible new memories were made. His wife made a short recording was a welcome memento to our visit.

This visit has sprung new life into my guitar learning/ playing. I hope to be playing guitar alongside him in a future visit.
Plans are already in the works for our next meeting.

What a heart warming experience associated with music. This is a great win. I pray that you will continue to find emotional healing for a past “father wound”. Thank you for sharing your experience. And forgotten lyrics is a trait of any good music lover!
