I’ve never liked flat picks. AND I hate strumming! I’ve always liked finger style. Well, I started trying to flat pick Billy In The Lowground. Screeeech, boink clunk is what it sounded like at first but now after a week or so of spending just a few minutes a day on it I’m having some success. I’m actually liking the playing of the individual notes and beginning to explore adding some runs and stuff. I still don’t like strumming but I’m having small wins over my anti flat pick bias.

Good for you @Mrfredsporty ! Keep on picking – with a pick, thumb or finger!

    Nice work Fred!

This may be another form of spreading your wings/ trying new stuff.

“Going out of your way” to learn something new and/or different— or— overcoming an obstacle along your guitar-journey path……… is really awesome.

IMHO this is a subtle sort-of “by product” of the TAC program.

Our TAC program “spreads the learning and skills” all over the place, rather than pidgeon-holing us into specializing in just one area—— and all of this, over the long haul. An example of this is the 5 different areas of the “Daily Lessons”.

We’ll all find our own “lane” MUCH easier if we have a well rounded “base” to jump off from.

To me, anyways, your post is just this.

    Again- nice work!

@Mrfredsporty , I like to finger pick. I found I am beginning to like some strummed songs. There are so many strumming patterns to memorize, yikes. For myself, I’d like to strum a song and record it. Then record a solo to that song. I haven’t done that yet, But, that’s my plan. Sounds like you are doing well with your guitar journey.
