Travel tricks?
Posted by stevierayj on February 13, 2025 at 10:58 amAnyone have any travel tricks? So, if you have work or vacation travel and can’t bring your guitar, what can you do to keep your momentum?
Bring a chord deck?
Stream the daily challenges anyway?
Any ideas are welcome!

It’s not really something to worry about. Of course you can log in and see what the challenges are. But it’s not like you fall behind, because the skills keep coming back around. However, there are number of traveling guitars and there are options that you might not have thought of, such as renting a guitar.

I have a Martin backpacker guitar that I take with me when I travel. It is easier than a full guitar to carry places, has sparked conversation wherever I go, and keeps me on my plan. And I can always access the internet and use my laptop for the Daily Challenges.

That’s amazing! I’ve had thoughts about building something but you actually did it!

Fretonomy isn’t free if you want to do anything useful with it, even though it says it’s a free download. Not too much, $25 a year, but on a fixed income that adds up. Probably a very good program otherwise.

I watch a ton of YouTube videos (acoustic guitar reviews, unboxings, etc.) I try not to watch guitar instructional stuff when away from my guitar but will spend time watching videos about theory like the circle of fifths or memorizing notes in a scale. I also have an app on my phone called ‘Fretonomy’ that has some games and activities to help memorize the fretboard and other things so I’ll use that. Also I got this D’Addario finger trainer thing which I always throw in my backpack and can use it anywhere in a few different ways. I also have a Taylor GS Mini that’s small enough for me to get in the car for any road trips (but I don’t fly with it).
Happy travels!

Fretonomy is the best iOS and Android app to practice notes, chords, intervals, and scales on the fretboard on the guitar, bass, ukuelele, banjo, or mandolin.
