  • Where to start in TAC

Posted by Jeff B on October 14, 2025 at 11:16 am

Hi, I finished the 30 days to play and the 5 day challenge and next step is TAC. It’s mid October, to start the TAC lessons do I go back to October 1st and start there? Not sure if I’m supposed to jump back to January 1 and work forward?

Nah. Just hop in on Monday this week. Sweet Home Chicago. And don’t beat yourself up if you don’t get it in 10 minutes. Just do the best you can. The lesson will come around again and you’ll be pleased and amazed with your improvement. The system works even though it makes us perfectionists uncomfortable.

Thanks! I felt like I was missing something because the lesson seemed so advanced compared to what I felt I had been learning. Like I had clearly missed a bunch of lessons.

Welcome to TAC! Each week the Daily Challenges take us through the 5 basic skills every guitarist needs, the same skill being emphasized on its day, every Monday, Tuesday, etc; using different material each week to work on that skill. No matter what level of playing guitar you are at, you just do the best you can within the 10 minutes, or whatever time you spend (some spend more time on the daily challenges, just don’t let it be a burden, keep it fun and enjoyable). As Albert said, lessons come around again, and you will see your improvement. Some lessons will seem hard, almost impossible (at least to me at the beginning), when you are new to this. Do the challenge anyway. When you have put in your time, let it go. You will be amazed how the system works over time, your skill improves, and you play as you never thought you could. Enjoy!

Thanks! I appreciate your feedback. I’m fully committed to the process and enjoying playing and practicing again. Really glad I found TAC.

Yes, this is a great system @jefbla1997gmail-com . You can jump in anywhere in the year and join the group of players. It’s a little hard to connect, but the chat sessions under the challenges are quite lively.

What’s been posted above is all very true. I would only add that you should give it your best, try when possible to not quit as soon as you hit a wall. Those seemingly impossible stumbling blocks are your biggest potential for growth. Spend an extra minute or two on the thing that is very difficult for you, often times a breakthrough will follow in due time.

Reading your post I realized I rarely if ever read the comments under the daily challenges. I recall them being just people saying how easy or difficult they found the challenge. Hearing you say they get quite lively is intriguing. I may have to start reading them.

Well I say that @Moose408 because compared to the forums they are “lively”. On Challenge days there could be 100 – 150 posts, give or take. Many are just “how easy or difficult they found the challenge” but many others give advise or some insight. The problem is the posts roll down as more people post and so much of it goes unviewed. I’ll scroll down a few dozen posts and occasionally to the very beginning, but I’m not going to come back at midnight and do this, nor will I scroll down every day.

These posts are essentially gone each week never to be seen again. The volume of posts in the forums is much, much lower: probably between 5 and 10 daily. It’s irksome to me how low participation is, only a few people post and among those most only seem to check in once or twice a week (if that often). The vast majority of people who post under the challenges, never venture into the forums. Anything they contribute will be invisible within a week, kind of sad.
