I finished my basement in 2020 in originally used for my guitar room. It has a low 7 foot ceiling and a tiled floor. The room is about 15 x 15’.
At first I didn’t realize what the problem was but it has horrible acoustics being super echoey and boomy. It was impossible to record anything and I first I couldn’t figure out why am I recording sounded even more horrible than normal. Adding furniture such as soft couches certainly helped. An area rug on the floor also made a huge difference. I eventually bought some cheap acoustic foam on Amazon to put in the corners of the wall that i was facing. Everything I did made a big difference but the room was just way too small for the acoustics.
If your room is suitable you really just have to worry about temperature and humidity.

It’s expensive but I can tell you that Gibson makes a studio series called the G-45 that has a shallow body
If you’re having trouble finding a guitar that fits you it’s definitely a good idea but there is no one size. Any size person can play any size guitar. You will see a little tiny Loretta Lynn playing a jumbo size which is the biggest they make or a full grown man playing a single o-18. Most professionals choose a guitar size foe the different tones they make. Bigger = louder plus more bass. Smaller = more distinct note separation.
When I first started playing my guitar would leave a big red crease across my chest under my right nipple. I don’t know if I just figured out a better posture or just got used to it but now it doesn’t bother me at all and doesn’t leave any sort of mark. I guess I used a hunch over the guitar trying to look down and see what I was doing but now I don’t really need to do that anymore.

2 years ago i would skip all the finger picking weeks as well as friday chord challenges . Now the impossible daily challenges are almost too easy sometimes. Slow but steady progress over time…25 more years and I will be awesome!

Are you on a phone or desktop? Android or apple?

I still can’t figure out why the old time country guys used to wrap their pick arm around the side of the guitar down near the strap button. I don’t ever play standing up so I wonder if this has to do with the fact that they used to tie the other end of the strap to the headstock behind the nut instead of the heel of the guitar which is more popular these days

Thx. Been playing this one since the beginning but i haven’t played it lately until tonight. I think this might’ve been the first full song I ever learned and actually memorized without playing it from tab

It’s so cool when someone can actually play the vocal melody instead of the actual instrumental part. Awesome work!

The Ringo Starr version featuring Buck Owens is pretty good, but I think Buck Owens wrote it and performed the original. It would’ve been a cool Buck Owens song for Dwight Yoakam to cover which reminds me, I’m going to do Streets of Bakersfield soon. Also working on the Buckaroo theme song but it’s a really really hard.

The reason i dont use them is because its a pain to tune and retune them. If i had another guitar dedicated to alternate tunings it would probably be a finger picking guitar
-
I awhile ago i decided to force myself to fingerpick more often and once you get the hand working its not bad. It has a steep initial learning but after that it might actually be easier than flatpicking
-
I dont use them much but alternate tuning seems to use alot of drone strings in the playing. The drone strings will match whatever key you are tuned to so i guess if you are in open G you should play in the key of g.
Also tuning the low E to D (drop d tuning) gives you bass that is a tone deeper than what you can normally get out of the guitar.

I most use tutorials on youtube. Almost every song you can think of is on there

I get most of my song tabs from ultimateguitar.com
They have pretty much any song you can possibly think of no matter how new or old and it’s free. I recommend paying the $20 yearly subscription to get auto scroll cause it’s annoying to have to keep moving the page while you’re trying to play lol
It’s mostly user submitted, but there’s usually several to pick from whether you’re looking for chords or actual tablature.
I’m trying to add more intros and fills to the stuff i play instead of just strumming but it’s proving to be really hard to play the electric guitar parts on an acoustic with medium strings.

Playing this song every day has helped my fingerpicking string locating tremendously. Unless I’m doing a pattern like Travis picking I usually just use my thumb and first finger
