    Great song!

I like that guitar. What kind is it?

Stew, you sound like a pro to me. So, how long has it taken you to get here?

I’m reluctant to write this because I don’t want to rain on your reunion. However, I can offer a suggestion or two, First of all, I’ve been playing for 10 months, and practice almost every day. I couldn’t do what you want to do. Nevertheless, If I had to do it, here’s how I’d approach it. I’d select the songs I want to play, paying close attention to how difficult they are. Buffalo Gals is much easier than Hotel California. Of course, the fewer songs I plan to learn the better my chances of success. Then I’d start learning them now, in addition to my regular practice, and play them every day.

I imagined that after a while of learning to play guitar I’d be able to pick up a piece of music and play it. The “catch” is that that will take much longer than I expected. I suppose it might happen eventually, but it will probably take years for me to get that proficient.

I suppose, like with all things, your success will be determined by the time and effort you devote to it.

I wish you all the best.

Thanks for your question. I thought I was the only one who didn’t get it.

I couldn’t handle the pain of steel strings. So I changes to nylon ones. That might offend the purists, but my finger tips are much happier. I find it easier to press on a string that does not cut into my fingers.

Based on my experience, if my finger is placed properly in the fret, it takes less pressure than if it’s not. Experiment with different placements and pressures.

Striving for perfection is the enemy of progress. Your issues will follow you wherever you go. I’m also old and have problems. My fingers are too fat to play chords, and they ache after playing. That’s the short list. I’ll spare you the long list. I share your view of the TAC shortcomings you mentioned. I have decided to accentuate the positives and downplay the negatives. I have more than one learning avenue, community college class (It was way more awesome than I imagined it would be.), assorted YouTube videos, and guitar song books. I hope in some small way this helps you find what you are looking for.

A week or so ago, one of our TAC sessions was “Somebody Holds the Key.”

Play that at least once a day, five to seven days a week.

Please keep in mind that my opinion may be worth what you paid for it. 😉

Thank you. I plan to visit the Taylor factory for a tour next month. Nice coincidence.

Thank you! I appreciate the reply.

Have you always been able to sing and play at the same time, or did that take some dedicated effort?

Of course, I will play today, and tomorrow, and the next day, and the . . .
