Why I'm Here

I first started playing guitar in 1967. I only took a few formal lessons (the teacher tended to use old folk songs and hymns) so I moved on to working on things on my own and with other players my own age. I’ve had my stops and starts over the years. Played more in college, less while I was in the Navy, then more after returning to civilian life. I had always been more of a chord strummer than anything else, and really wanted to learn to finger pick and just do more. I found a sample lesson through a Google search and liked the results. When I retired, I decided to take the plunge and signed up for both TAC and Fretboard Wizard. I’ve made a lot of progress. 2021 marks my third year as a member.

My Guitar Goal

What I'm Focused On Now

In addition to my regular routine, I want to learn five new songs and add some finger-picking to five songs I already know, but have always been content to simply strum the chords.

My Guitar Routine

This is How I TAC

On a perfect week, I’ll play every day. My usual place is in our den. I’m retired, so my usual time is mid-morning, with my second (or third) cup of coffee. Monday through Friday, I’ll start by checking my tuning, then go through the day’s lesson. After the lesson, I’ll go on and play a while longer, working on favorites, or areas I’d like to improve on.

Probably two or three times a week, I’ll give the lesson another go sometime in the evening. On weekends, I like to go back over all the lessons for the week.

I spend a lot of time working on finger picking. That’s the area I most wanted to work on when I first decided to sign up for TAC.
