I have a GS Mini myself and love it. I don’t think i’ll ever go back to a full size guitar. The guitar I use the most is a 1/2 size Cordoba Classical guitar. A little smaller than the GS-Mini and nylon strings. I picked it up super cheap on sale for $65. I use it all the time!! Don’t give up, you’ll love your GS-Mini, but if you still have some issues with those fingers look around for a used 1/2 size nylon string model. Good Luck!

Excellent recording. I have been practicing the same song and always skip the Interlude between the lyrics. You included it and it sounded AWESOME!

Finishing the Fretboard Wizard is a great accomplishment. I have done it a couple of times now and still learn something new. I’ll be looking for that Bluegrass Video 🙂

I have done and redone and redone the Fretboard Wizard and each time, I understand a little more. I had to use the TAC community a number of times when taking it. If you get overwhelmed, just walk away for a few days. But, go back to it! Tony will mention something in his Daily Challenge about the ‘key is in D Major’ and the chords are something like ‘D, Em, F#m, G, A, Bm C#dim’. That is a Deer in the headlight moment! If I hadn’t had the community I would have quit! When you get stumped, Just put in the title field, fretboard Wizard and where you are stuck. Members will get back with you. Take notes so you can look through your notes (that helped me). Good luck.

MemberJanuary 3, 2022 at 3:44 am in reply to: Playing songs by heart months/years after learning themMy goal this year is to memorize at least 10 songs. I’m up to 4 songs, almost 5. I play them everyday for at least 5 minutes (the ones I know that is). The ones on my ‘to learn list’ I play over and over and over. I also ramped up my playing time to 2 hours a day (sounds like a lot, but so far so good). I track all the songs that I do play. If someone were to say to me….. “Hey Denise, I hear you play the guitar, Can you play us a couple of songs”. I don’t want to say no, i can’t. I have to have sheet music to do that. As for memorizing I think it’s your ears and fingers. I can finger pick Alice’s Restaurant and Black Bird. I swear I couldn’t tell you how it’s played. I could show you thou. Good Luck and you’ll come up with a good system. I’d start with some type of tracking system.

I’m getting close to my year in TAC and I have used the metronome off and on in all that time. I finally said to myself. JUST DO IT!! I play, and replay and replay to even out my playing (even if I had to set the BPM down). I really think it does help. Thanks

It’s more of a game now. I have to get in X amount of picks before my time runs out. I think i’ll memorize the songs faster this way too. It’s funny you mention the ‘odd mistake’ because sometimes I know i’m not fitting everything in, so I just skip a couple of picks. ha ha ha. Thanks
-
Thanks, I really think the metronome is going to help me out. My goal right now is to learn to play at least 10 songs without sheet music. If it’s a strummed song, I want to get the intro down and those little licks going from one chord to another. I really feel as if I’m starting to get a better feel for everything. I think the metronome is going to be a game changer for me.

There are some songs that are just way too fast. I’m concentrating on finger picking. I don’t know how their fingers could possibly fly over the strings like they do. I have to set the metronome down maybe 20 (or more) BPM to be able to get all the picks in. It really seems to be helping me thou. Forcing me to do better.

Nice because you can also pull the site up on your IPhone. There are times I’m not by my computer, but you can bet your butt I do have my IPhone! Thanks @That_Guy

I save all my songs on my computer. I have a folder called Songs, in that folder I store all my individual songs. These individual folders are named with the Song Writer, The name of the song, what style of playing (is it strummed or finger picked), How hard is the song to play (Hard, Intermediate or Easy. You have 255 characters to name a folder or a file name. You could add in the name ‘practice’ or whatever you want to name it. Then just do a search. If you want to play Bob Dylan songs, search for Dylan. Do you want to practice some songs in D-Tuning, search for D-Tuning. I attached a photo where I had just search for EASY.
