By the way…I received my Yamaha APXT2 (3/4 size acoustic-electric guitar) on Saturday. I’ve been playing (with) it since then. I’m hoping the smaller size will help me progress.

Thanks Pete. I was feeling a bit guilty for a minute.

I still can’t make the full F chord on the guitar. I use the Fmaj7 instead. I REALLY dislike barre chords!

Skyman, I usually use my thumb, but I told myself that I will learn to use the flat pick.

I REALLY LOVE the fingerpicking sound…that could be what is getting in the way of me learning to use the flat pick. That said, I have many picks of varied thicknesses, Some of them are textured picks that are a little easier to hold onto than the standard pick.

I appreciate your reply. I will keep struggling…I mean practicing with the flat picks.

Albert, what are your thoughts on thumb picks? I can’t seem to get the hang of using…or even holding on to a regular flat pick (I’ve been trying to use a pick since 2019). Thanks in advance for your reply.

It happens often. It’s a real bear getting it out of the instrument. I guess that’s one of the reasons that I prefer to play with my fingers.

The first two weeks were pretty easy for me. The strumming is very difficult. I didn’t do much on day 4 of the strumming week because the website was frozen and I really needed some help. I am on day 5 now…still strumming. I think I will move ahead to the solo week and revisit the strumming week later (it is not going well at all).

I’ve incorporated a metronome. It is helpful with chord changes, but not with the strumming. I guess I will figure it out later.

Any tips on how to NOT drop the pick into the sound hole?

Great advice, Moose. I’m going to try those tips myself.

Pete, I have trouble with the power chords, but I CAN make the 2-finger chords fairly easily.

I’m interested in playing folk, blues, soft rock, pop, coffee house (is that a thing?), and some light country. Most of these sound best using an acoustic guitar so I am determined to “get good” at it.

Thank you for your positive feedback.

Jorge, I shall give the alternate tuning a try. Thanks.

Hi Jorge! I’ve already seen a few videos of Djando Reinhardt…he was awesome. I am working on compensating for the crooked fingers (and my deaf ear). I play with both TAC and YouTube (play-along videos) daily. With the stretches, I can feel my fingers limbering up. I expect to be playing pretty smoothly by the end of the year.

Thank you for your positive feedback.
