To return to a habit of progressive learning in a context of musical understanding that goes beyond simple mimicry.    I’ve always felt like a player piano – being able to play some things by rote without feeling like I really understand how things work.

I just memorize more and more things until I start to forget the initial things I learned.   I want to fit the pieces together rather than just keep collecting individual pieces until I start losing them.    I don’t even really care what the puzzle turns out to be.    I’d just like to put the pieces together and find out.
