Why I'm Here

My name is Dennis J. McWherter. I was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. I joined the US Army when I was 17 years old. I left for basic right after graduation of high school. I served 16 years enlisted on active duty  and reserves. I went to OCS and obtained a commission, served another 16 years as an officer. I was mobilized 3 times for the wars, deployed twice to Iraq. I retired from the Army in August 2017 prior to pinning on Lieutenant Colonel.  I was being asked to go back to the war and my current wife said you lost one wife you will lose another. So I retied as a Major, truth is I was unable to continue truly anyway, since 2012 I have had 10 surgeries and a total of 20. My body said enough.

I also spent 30 years as a sworn Illinois Law enforcement Officer and retired in 2018. I have worked in most divisions of policing, jail operations, patrol, undercover narcotics, tactical, SWAT, Investigations, Community Policing, retiring as a Watch Commander.

I am currently married to a very beautiful woman for the past 4 years and we have been together 8, I have 3 adult children, a daughter (31) married who is an ER Nurse in Illinois, my son (28) married is a computer engineer for Amazon in Phoenix, a son (26) engaged Law enforcement officer in Florida, and two sons (12) living with my wife and I from her previous marriage, but I have been with them since they were 4.

I have many issues still that I deal with on a daily basis but I believe in God, I am back to attending church weekly, which has been extremely helpful and has made me more pleasant to be around. The people at the Veteran Administration have treated me with the greatest of care, yes I know they have abad reputation, the ones who really give the attitude are the support staff but the clinicians wonderful.

Finally, I now have TAC and all of those in this forum. This will help me on a daily basis, which this too has already done in such a short time.  I am addicted to Tony’s program and want to not only make music for myself but for my family and friends as well. I will never be a rock star but I will continue to smile.

My Guitar Goal

What I'm Focused On Now

My 90 day goal July 2021 is to be able to play all the shapes of the CAGE system and to be able to sing and play a few songs. I can play them, I just cannot sing and play at the same time.

My Guitar Routine

This is How I TAC

In a perfect guitar week I will play 7 days in a row. I will play at 7:00pm -9:00pm as this is after our family has dinner. My sons are playing their video games, my wife is enjoying her me time. I then sit with my friend Captain Morgan and Diet Pepsi, view the TAC Challenge as well as other guitar instructions and the I try to emulate the musical talents of others. I usually play in the basement, however as the weather is getting warmer, I want to sit outside and share the sound of the guitar with my neighbors, not to show off, but to hopefully bring a smile as they walk by my home with their family and pets.
