| Why I'm Here |
I bought my first guitar (basic Epiphone model ), which I still have, when I was 16 (in 1970); joined the British Army at 17 and carried it around with me for 43 years until I retired from the service two years ago. Â Recently bought a Richwood 28E, which has a great tone. Â I have promised myself that once I am a competent player, I will buy a decent Martin or Gibson.

Although I have always strummed a few chords, I never really took it up ardently (really wish I had) until now. Â Played in a ceilidh band for a few years, but apart from that done nothing too seriously. I am currently self-employed as a singer (stage name: Dennis George), doing Rat Pack, Tom Jones, Matt Munro and Tony Bennett covers amongst others; I also work as a DJ, MC and compere concerts and shows. Â My guitar teacher, now also my best friend, wants me to perform with him at professional gigs doing American Country and Western, Rockabilly and British 60s/70s pop type music, hence the motivation to learn the guitar properly. He tells me that it could take up to 20 years to be proficient, but I work mainly at the weekends and evenings, so have a lot of time to devote to guitar and will hopefully be to performance standard a lot sooner than that.
