Why I'm Here

I picked up a guitar after I got my first after-college job. I had listened to Wes Montgomery all through college and wanted to play what I had heard. It’s been a long road to learning how to play, what with life–marriage, children, divorce, further education, and career changes–happening. It’s also been a long road to understanding the different kinds of guitars and which ones fit best with my body and fingers. Too bad no one tells a girl these things. Currently, I own: Taylor T5Z Classic; Ovation Slim; Washburn Parlor; Traveler travel guitar; and a Mitchell baritone ukulele.

I have never stopped loving this acoustic instrument. In addition to my love of the sound, the feel of the strings–both nylon and steel–under my fingers and the smooth slide of a satin neck are soothing addictions. Along the way, I have added Earl Klugh and Pat Metheny to my list of favorite phenoms. These three stellar guitarists are way out of my league, but now that I’m “older,” I can focus on learning how to play effectively enough so that I don’t embarrass myself when someone says to me “show me what you’ve got”.

City

I want to prove to myself that I can become proficient enough on this challenging instrument to play for an audience of strangers.
