You have good technique! Keep on keepin on! TAC challenges are awesome. I have learned a ton… Enjoy!

You did well on this one too. The metal tips certainly make a difference. I think I like the more aggressive sound of the tips as well, but damn they are hard to get used to!

This is awesome! Great pickin! This is where I want to go too… I want to learn to finger pick well.

Nice job!
This song is kinda tough. The chords are basic put the picking part and the timing… woowee…

Here is my 2 cents. I struggle too and mine is not consistent yet but this is how I do it… I had actually replied to someone else and he had a photo of how he was doing his fingering… So, when I refer to “this is kinda how you have yours” … I was specifically talking to him BUT… I am still showing how I get it to work for me. LOL… You twist your wrist such that your palm is very close to the neck. I hope that helps. We are all different and thus find what works best for us… but thought maybe giving a visual on how it works best for me may help you as well.

Maybe try to push your palm up toward the neck – which should twist your wrist a bit such that your hand is more at an angle vs being up and forward. I would imagine fingering the chord like that is putting some pressure on your thumb. I tried to show in a video… I hope it helps. I know we all have our challenges and I am no expert but this is the way I am able to do it. I am not consistent on getting it perfect yet but… at any rate I hope it helps.

As my strength builds, I do find myself playing more and more. Picking up the guitar has become my meditation in some ways. I do not feel complete without playing on any given day.

Awesome! I am taking the Barre chord courses right now as well. BUT.. when you have these things where we do hammer ons and certain fingerstyle picking, the mini F is the one to use. Its a tough one to get under your belt though. I can do it but still not consistently when I am actually trying to play a song… lol.

Yes… when you twist your wrist so that your palm goes up closer to the neck your elbow does move in toward your body. I knew what the others were saying but sometimes I think it helps to see it. I tried really hard to just type directions lol…

Thanks. Its a Takemine GB7… Its a bit big for me really but I do enjoy it. I also have a Martin SC13E which is much easier to play (for me anyway).

MemberApril 15, 2025 at 1:24 pm in reply to: Billy In the Lowground – Flatpicking Techniques Skills CourseThe flatpicking helps in getting to know the distance between strings and frets. So, even if its not your thing, you should try it just because it helps with getting an overall feel for the where strings/frets are. Its muscle memory really. I think you were the one that commented and said you had trouble landing on the right bass note on Old Man. I also have that problem but have found this flatpicking course has helped a bunch with that.

Well, thank you! I do feel like I am making good progress. So close, and yet so far away… lol
I really wanted to post this so I can see my progress in a couple more months. I think its so important to see / hear the progress we make as we move along the journey. It helps in those times of frustration…
