Wow, what a cool website. My name is Gavin, I live in Los Angeles and I am super obsessed with Mississippi John Hurt. I gave up the wonderful life of being a Park Ranger in Yosemite for a cruel and exhausting life in the Film Industry. I am attempting to save my soul with a guitar…. which I’ve only recently decided that I want to get really good at. I’m excited to get older with music. My musical tastes are changing and I no longer have the sense of urgency I once had. I now choose practicing to going out and old records and songbooks to new people and cocktails.
Recently, I purchased a new Martin D18. I probably played 20 different D18 models – from vintage to Authentics and Golden Eras – until I happened to find the exact tone I was looking for. Just in a humble little standard. But, boy does it hum. I also just picked up a 1934 Gibson L-00 that is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in this universe. But it is currently getting extensive work at the luthier, so I can’t quite comment on how it plays yet. Locally, I take finger style lessons from probably the coolest dude I’ve ever met. Life is good. Anyhow, happy to be here.
