That was mighty impressive, to say the least!! For me, improvising is still pretty much like nuclear physics – or trying to learn Chinese😆 I usually don’t even attempt that part of the Wednesday challenges. But watching fellow TACers like you absolutely rockin’ it, I’m hopeful that maybe, someday, it will begin to seem possible. Thanks for the inspiration!

Though I have been checking in each day and trying the challenges, I have wondered about how to connect the pieces eventually. For now I’m focused on establishing a consistent routine, and all Tony’s exercises are certainly helping me increase my musical knowledge and improve my finger dexterity. My primary goal for guitar was to learn songs that I could play and sing, so I have concentrated mostly on chords and strumming. But now I am realizing I need to learn how to inject those licks, chord embellishments and solos to make the songs more interesting. I’m very confident that TAC will guide me there.

A fine accomplishment, indeed! Does that mean you’re celebrating your first year TACiversary? I’m excited about aiming for that goal – no other guitar learning system I’ ve tried before has kept me consistently engaged like this one.

I agree completely that reading and occasionally contributing to the forum discussions is one of the best parts of being a TAC member. Sharing in the daily achievements and observations of fellow geeks is truly inspirational! Indeed, I have to watch that I still take time to actually plà y my guitar 🎸 😄

I joined TAC about 2 months ago and don’t remember being offered the option of FW. But my memory isn’t always that reliable😆 Anyway, from what I’ve read in the posts here, it sounds like a valuable learning tool, so when the new version is out I’ll have to consider jumping in. I do know just enough music theory to make some sense of things on the fretboard, but possibly I’m in the “know just enough to be dangerous” category.

I am a few weeks behind you, but sure do agree on the tremendous value of joining TAC. Keeps me focused and playing every day, and I definitely notice improvement in my finger dexterity after just a couple of months. Still find myself getting frustrated at those buzzing strings on occasion, but now I’m confident I will conquer those minor setbacks eventually.

Still finding every excuse not to record myself, because I know I will cringe when hearing it. But like you, I’m determined to take the plunge since I believe it will lead to much improvement in my playing and performing abilities. Next step then is to join in on the VOM sessions. It’s encouraging to know many fellow TACers are in the same boat!

I recently added a GS mini to my modest but growing guitarsenal, and so far I’m very impressed with the rich sound that comes out of that small body! Mine has the spruce top with Tasmanian/Australian blackwood sides and back. I love the look and feel of it, and can’t understand why some reviewers complain about a “tinny” sound. I traded a dreadnaught sized Epiphone for the mini – loved the sound of that one, too, but found it very hard to play it comfortably. My one big concern with the mini is that I have struggled to play fingerstyle and the narrower neck makes that even more challenging. That’s okay, though, I’m pretty sure there are more guitars out there waiting for me😄

Great attitude, I need to adopt that for myself! Usually I abandon any kind of task or learning experience if I can’t attain some level of proficiency fairly quickly. Not that I expect to be an instant expert, but I find it hard to enjoy activities if I’m not at least somewhat competent. Which means I’ve probably missed out on a lot of fun in my days, alas. I am happy to say that the pattern didn’t hold with my guitar journey – I’m a long ways from feeling competent, but I’m sticking with it and having fun for the most part. Except for those @#$% barre chords!

Well, I’m still a newbie here at TAC, so chock full of enthusiasm for Tony’s amazing learning style. I’ve seen lots of comparisons that can’t quite compete, though most of them did offer some valuable insights. I agree with you that folks here seem entirely genuine and eager to offer support and encouragement. So keep those comments / observations coming🙂

Think I’d need several more lifetimes before I could hope to play a tiny fraction of what that young dude can pull off😆 Good for you seeing him live!
-
Very impressive! I’m about 300 behind you, but even with just over a month into the TAC program I’m totally convinced I’ll be here for a long time. I’ve watched lots of guitar tutorials and lessons on YouTube, and have to say Tony’s are the best overall.

I have no doubt some of it will be utterly confounding, but I have seen how eager to help many of you more veteran TAC members have been. What a great community!

I have done the first couple of lessons in the Foundations course, need to get back to that. So much to learn it’s easy to get pulled off in all directions!

You likely already know him, but if not, I’d suggest checking out Sturgill Simpson and his band. The mandolin player on his 2 recent “Cutting Grass” cds, Sierra Hull, is also incredible!
