That is awesome! I agree totally that Tony’s lessons and constant encouragement make a big difference in building confidence.

From what I understand, the only way to do that is if you saved them under your “Favorites” tab. But apparently all the lessons eventually come around again at some point.

Open tunings are a relatively new thing for me, too. After concentrating on learning songs for my first 3+years of guitar, I’ve recently gotten curious about exploring different aspects of this fascinating instrument – such as blues and slide guitar, which make extensive use of open tunings, it appears. As albertd says, though, this week is only the second time in my 5 months of TAC where Tony has used an open tuning theme. Hang in there!

So sorry to hear of your accident. As a carpenter who also works with power tools all day every day, I too think about these things. With all the advances in prosthetics these days maybe there is one that could work for guitar playing? I don’t really know their full stories, but guitarists like Django Reinhardt and Tony Iommi have had great success despite not having full use of all their fingers, hopefully they can be an inspiration. Wishing you all the best in your recovery.

I’m working on the CAGED system lessons now, too. My understanding of Tony’s explanation was that forming the barred C shape chords is made a little easier by using the index finger on the open G string and only playing the 2,3,4,5, strings, or using a mini barre over the 1,2,3 strings while fingering the normal C shape with your middle, ring and pinky. Playing the full barre is way too tough for me, I’m still not able to get clean sounds out of many barre chords. But FBW and TAC have sure helped me to improve that.

Welcome to TAC! I’ll second mrfredsporty’s recommendation. I’ve seen lots of finger style material since joining 5 months ago, and TAC is an awesome community. Check in regularly with the forums, you’ll always get plenty of feedback and encouragement here!

That’s a great win, for sure! I just started into Week 3 of FBW, really eager to tackle the CAGED system and learn my scales once and for all. And I agree, this week’s challenges were lots of fun. Enjoy this fabulous fall weekend!

I’d say you’re pretty darn good at fingerpicking, from my perspective! Must be that banjo playing experience😄 Can’t help noticing that resonator on the wall behind you – what do you use it to play mostly? I just got one and am working at learning some fingerstyle blues and eventually some slide guitar. Enjoyed your video, look forward to more.

Very nicely done! And that’s one gorgeous guitar! I’m quite impressed with your comfortable posture and playing entirely without watching your fingers – things I’m still striving towards.

Congrats! I will second what albertd said: it gets way easier and way more fun with every passing week.

Wow, lucky you made it for that big milestone! Keep on strumming and picking, stevieblues! I know what you mean, it’s hard not to get a little discouraged now and then, but that’s one of the many great things about TAC – when you hit a wall in one area, Tony gives so many options to work at something different for awhile. I find it inspires me to see what other TAC folks are doing, too. As you say, it’s a wonderful community!

Welcome back to TAC! Boy does your story “resonate” with me (pun intended)! Until I joined TAC some 5 months ago, I really struggled to stay focused and play regularly, and often got so frustrated with the slow pace of my progress that I just forgot to have fun with it. Tony’s system has been a revelation for me, and I know I’ve learned more in the past few months than I did in my first 4 years of this guitar journey. I am certainly enjoying it far more. Your plan seems very well designed, all you need to do is check in daily and commit to that minimum 10 minutes and you’re sailing! And take advantage of these awesome forums, many of us find the cameraderie and support to be a hugely encouraging.

Wow, that looks like guitar heaven! Couldn’t help but notice that little (yet) disclaimer in your post, though – maybe they had a nice resonator or two you could try out?😆

Welcome to TAC! We all learn in our own way, of course, but for me the tabs are pretty much essential as learning aids. I can follow Tony to some extent on the video lessons, but inevitably I lose track of where I am in the lick or sequence he’s playing. I suppose I should be trying to follow the music notation, too, as it would certainly help for learning the notes on the fretboard. But for now I’m happy enough using the tabs.

Glad to hear you and others are as enthused about FBW as I am, oldcoach! My biggest light-bulb moments have been learning how to determine the chord matrices, and discovering that *hallelujah* I really can develop the skill of finding keys and chords by ear!! TAC (and FBW) is easily the best investment I’ve made so far in my guitar learning journey.
