Okay @mdrichman62gmail-com here is my secret: go slow, even slower, nope still too fast, go more slowly. I had to litteraly imagine myself moving in slow motion while making my hand and fingers do the same. I am talking comically slow. Exaggerate the finger motions off of the guitar (air guitar style) before putting them on the guitar. At that speed I found I could will myself to do it and then my brain clicks and up to speed we go. The other thing is to mute the strings while learning new rhythmic patterns. Not sure why, but this helped me a ton.

One of my guitar heros and a continual source if inspirtation in spirit was/is a fingerstyle player named Pete Huttlinger. Tony did a great interview with him before he passed. He too suffered a stroke but his living was earned by playing. He too had to learn guitar twice and the tale is worth a listen.
Frustration will hamstring your progress. As the most frustrated learner in the history of guitar, recovered, what every help you might need in eliminating it, I am with you. I wish you godspeed in your recovery. Every now is new.

Nicely done there. You may have discovered that all neck shapes are not the same. I wonder if the different shape gave you just enough angle to get over the hump as it were on the Fchord buzz and you fingers did the rest once they got there? Glad the f is in hand now!

I had many of the sentiments you are feeling right now. You are in the perfect place. Ignorance is not stupidity. You have many years experience. You had the wrong teacher for all those years. Have faith in the system you choose whether it be TAC or somewhere else. The fantastic thing about TAC is that it teaches how to play guitar and not just the finger choreography of a song. (It took me a good while to figure out that these two things are not the same.) Any expectation you have is where your fun goes to die. Jetison your expectation. Own your past experience for better or worse. My best mindset for this was: The way I learned on my own did not make me the player I wanted to be. There is no wrong way, only ways that are slower or faster. Effort and Good Direction will be the new generators of progress. Frustration is the enemy and it will stifle progress. Nothing put my guitar into a closet faster than frustration. Fun or frustration, both were available, I had to choose which I was going to experience. I learned “fun” was the way to improvement and success.

My take: TAC took me from a rehearsed mindset to intuitive playing….I could not have done this without the knowledge and information set up with the training structure. I had no idea of the physical requirements to play the way I wanted to play when I started. Over time it became clear I needed help. TAC was the structure the training ground I needed to become the player of my desire.

I progressed faster once I wrapped my mind around the fact that Tony has been playing about 20 year longer than I have been playing. It gave me permission in my mind to be a learner.

I can confirm: this also happens with me. I will work on something that Is driving me nuts because I am so close but not close enough and when I come back the groove that evaded me locks in and like riding a bike, once felt, I don’t need to relearn.

Hey @petelanger : I was thinking about what you said….I may have learned as much in the chats as I did from Tony…..the chats worked out and directly supported the meat of the challenge material. 50/50 split…maybe….close anyways.

the river is deep and wide. There are volumes of old lessons that we don’t see any more. As time went on…the TACmethod focused and new improved lessons were introduced replacing old. What we see is a distilation of greatest hits as it were, fast progress and clear direction being the qualifiers.
