Happy TACiversary @Cadgirl : great routine great goals. The only question I have is: when would it not be possible? Play every day! I am trying to think of an example…..okay I have one, if you find yourself incarcerated. That would get in the way. : ) Is there another?

Wonderful analysis @Mrfredsporty , I figured this out fairly early on in my guitar journey. I only have two guitars in the guitarsenal that are not worth considerably more (today and volatile historically to say the least) than what I paid for them. One because it is a recent purchase and the other because it is a custom build made by an unknown but fantastic small bench luthier. I will acknowledge it was hard the first time I spend an uncomfortable amount of money on a guitar without knowing what would happen to its value but the 8 years of careful buying and selling has led to a collection that is more valuable than what I paid for it. I have bought broken guitars off of Craigslist and had them fixed. I have bought used/vintage from trusted reputable dealers (still had to have work done) and have bought new guitars from small bench luthiers. Guitar collecting for value is not for everyone and there is a definite learning curve on who to buy from and who to use for repair work. It is darn near a lifestyle but if you like it, totally satisfying and rewarding. All that said it is an adjunct to actual playing which can be done on any guitar the player finds pleasing to listen to and to play. One of the best guitars I had that fit this bill was a Yamaha Fg735s. You can find these used in the 200 or so dollar range.

I am chuckling hearing you say this Martin will be your last guitar. Lots can happen in 5 years especially if you keep hanging around and playing………Very happy you have found your “It” guitar,….for now, hehehe.

Thank you my friends for your well wishes. Rough coupla days for playing but I continued to hit my 10min minimum. Today has been better. I played through a few well loved songs too. I am not sure continuing to play while so under the weather will physically make me a better player but it goes miles in mentally making me a better player. Looking forward to feeling even better tomorrow. Thanks again for your encouragement. It helped.

Hi @Mrfredsporty : I like craigslist for this reason: there are the occasional excellent buys to be found there. You are able to play the guitar too which is darn near requisite for a new/new to me guitar joining my guitarsenal. There are a few dealers who I trust and know well enough to have conversations regarding tone, geometry, setup. I have bought without playing from and so far no disappointments. (once I had a small problem from Music Villa in Montana but the deal we agreed to meant they were unwilling to fix something I thought was unstandard and the fix was not too costly.) D-28d from Martin are lovely. I would encourage you to explore some other rosewood dreadnoughts from smaller builders as well. There are the occasional screaming deals to be had, not so much in new but rather in the used markets at places like Dave’s guitars in LaCrosse Wisconsin, or Eddie’s Guitars in St Louis MO, or Heartbreaker Guitars in Las Vegas NV, or Dream Guitars in Asheville, NC. The best deal I ever saw on a used guitar was a on a Preston Thompson OM sold by Heartbreaker Guitars It was 10 years old, someone had traded it in. I wish I could say I was the beneficiary of that deal but It went to one of my best Guitar Buddies. Have fun in your hunt and play everything you can get your hands on. You may be surprised by a smaller not on your current radar. The hunting is as fun for me as the owning. It is the Acoustic Life.

Not Sure yet why…this is one of my favorites SWR. Fletchie: can you do your songs live? Are they woven into the fabric of your memory. I know you are a prolific writer. I am curious because I have a hard time keep 10 songs going at any given moment doing them from wrote memory.

    Lovely Work SWR.

@the-old-coach I think the idea of taking a song down to its basic elements is a fantastic strategy. Let necessity be the mother of your invention. As your ear develops your fingers will develop as well and your desire to play differently will be some of the fuel to fire of determination needed to accomplish some of the details. Some of the very best stuff is tightly basic. Some of the other best stuff is highly detailed too.

My Nick name of Jumpin was from a comment a friend of mine made while we were playing together: He urged me to calm down, relax, he noticed I was really jumpy when I played and my fingers were jumpin off the fretboard….Then in TACs early Days I was the only Jeff S and lo an’ behold another Jeff S joined so to avoid confusion I went with Jumpin Jeff fairly confident another jumpin jeff was not coming aboard. I was not wrong. No wonder I was enthralled with Carol-3M-Stillhand’s conservation of motion.

One of the reasons @AttyTJ I love playing together live. Everyone is highly focused on the groove and not registering the visuals of facial expressions.😄 I think also playing live I am looking a lot at what your hands are doing to help my get to the groove.

Ever since I first saw you play Stillhand, ( @Carol-3M-Stillhand ) I have been trying to emulate your conservation of motion. It is a thing of beauty.
