| Why I'm Here |
I inherited my dads guitars. He played by ear, was in a band, he and his 5 brothers could all play guitars, mandolins, bass guitars… his youngest brother makes his living playing guitar and he plays with one hand. He had polio as a kid. My dad had cancer in his early 40’s and was sick most of my high school years but I learned a few chords and he would play and call out chords for me so I could strum along with him. When he died, just as I got out of high school, the guitars all went under my moms bed. That was 1980 and they didn’t come out until 2015 when she was finally able to let go of them. I had a Lyle acoustic that I played rarely. I still have it. My dads guitar vault had a Fender Telecaster from the 70’s, a little Fender duo-sonic,probably from the 60’s, that I used to pack to lessons when I was 12, and a Kent bass guitar. I bought myself a Fender Strat off craigslist. I went to see my dads last living brother, the one who plays one handed, last summer. My Uncle Jerry gave me a Fender flattop and he encouraged me to go to jam sessions.  I have had a blast relearning how to play and joined TAC so I could improve my skills.

I have played for a long time and still am not a guitar player. What I do is play with the guitar. I'm not very good yet, but I think these guitars deserve to be used and I am determined to do my best. I would like to play as well with my two hands as my Uncle plays with his one.
