Why I'm Here

I’m an American ex-pat living in Sydney, 10 years with my wife. She’s from Switzerland, coolest person I know. After that, maybe Tony. I’m 58, treated myself to a Martin D35 for my 50th birthday. Started playing self-taught at age 11, Mel Bay books. Plateaued. Never learned formally and felt lost and adrift until finding this exact guitar program. I’m just starting again. Feeling very excited. My interests are acoustic bluegrass, traditional Americana and deep southern blues. Let’s see how this goes.

Say you discover a beautiful thing that you can do when you're a kid, and you love that thing. And then you find yourself stuck because you never really found a good instructor or maybe never bothered to look. So you play the same stuff over and over but you yearn to get better. You never do anything about it and your expensive Martin D35 sits alone behind the closet door. That's me. And now this is me, finding that thing I love again, feeling hopeful, making friends with the guitar again. I so want to learn traditional guitar, the right way and blues the way my guitar deserves to be played. There's something very kind and authentic about this outfit and I think I'm going to like it here.
