Love the full sound of the 4 finger G, but also love the versatility of the 3 finger leaving the index free for embellishments. For me, it depends on the song I’m playing.

Love the Santa Cruz low tension. I wait for a sale and order several sets. Also, I only use them on the guitars I play most often. On others I use Stringjoy, except on the 12 string where I use coated strings for longer life.

I certainly appreciate your comments and your sentiment. It’s interesting that some time ago the forums were very active, with wide-ranging and fun topics engaging a core group of friendly people, as well as a growing number of others who occasionally participated. The site was overhauled and the “rules” for the forums were changed ostensibly because they were “being dominated by a relatively small group” while there were thousands of “TACers” who did not participate with any regularity. Yet, here we are again. Perhaps this is just the nature of things.

I get the sentiment. But, I keep yearning for a Martin D28S Brazilian. They are not easy to find and run near $10,000. Hard to justify. 🙂

Have not tried Zager strings. Had a Zager guitar for about 2 days before taking advantage of their guaranteed full refund including return shipping. It was a small guitar, all mahogany, just didn’t work for me. Stings I use? Different on different guitars. Favorite are Santa Cruz parabolic, but they are expensive. Also use Elixir on 12 string because they last longer. String Joy are also very good.

What a GREAT WIN! Congrats.

One thing I heard from a guitar tech / luthier may be helpful or pertinent. He said it’s important to have a high break angle of the string over the saddle to maintain optimum tone. So, at times if there is not room to lower the saddle, they will remove the bridge and sand some off the bottom to lower the string action.

I bought a Zager small guitar, short scale, all mahogany. I didn’t like it. However, their best attribute, they have a true, free return policy. They pay freight and refund your purchase price, so you can’t really lose.

I never really had lessons early on, but earned to finger pick without pinky contact. However, I was surprised when I recently decided to ick up the banjo that the instructor was quite insistent on anchoring with either the pinky or the ring or both. At this point I really struggle to maintain contact with either.
