Why I'm Here

Why learn guitar?

Because I love the sound of acoustic guitar. I love it all – classical, flamenco, pop, folk, rock, blues, jazz. (Sorry, Tony, but the only music I don’t really like is heavy metal…unless it’s unplugged).

Because I just have a burning desire to play guitar.

Because I hear music in my mind all the time. I have songs in me that need to come out. And guitar is one way to give voice to those songs.

My Guitar Goal

What I'm Focused On Now

My Current Goals Are:

  • Continue to
    • work on cleaner chord changes and clear tone
    • add embellishments to my chords, hammer-on, pull-offs, etc
    •  work on barre chords and be able to EASILY play at least four songs with a barre chord
    • perform an original song, at a VOM or publicly
    • work on fingerstyle and perform at least one song using a fingerstyle technique
  • Learn to fingerpick at least one “Classic” song (like Dust in the Wind or something along those lines)
  • Be able to pick up the guitar and play at least 6 songs from memory
  • Learn at least one song in an alternate tuning
  • Memorize the fretboard, one note at a time

My Guitar Routine

This is How I TAC

Okay so I have adult ADD (or ADHD, whichever your want to use). Which means routines are tough for me. USUALLY I do the daily challenge for 10-15 minutes, depending my my time availability and level of frustration. Work on a technique on my goal list. On weekends, I spend more time learning new songs or techniques. That’s it.

I play guitar in my Woman Cave/She Den/Music Room. It is the 3rd and smallest bedroom in the house, and the only thing in there that I would like to remove is the twin/guest bed. We do have another guest bedroom (it’s just me and my husband), but he wants me to keep the bed in there for some unknown guest. A small sacrifice to make, especially since I’ve been able to move things around and create a nice space for myself. Another “challenge” is the air vent/air exchange to our open concept kitchen-dining-living room. So I hear my husband’s blasting TV (he’s half deaf but refuses to check out hearing aids). So I need to make a noise cancellation baffle for the vent. Then it will be just about perfect!
