I feel like I kinda had a handle in understanding (sort of) and following along in this great thread……
And then Carol-3M came along! and made me realize there is SOOOOO much more for me to learn- (this is a good thing!).
She has shined a light on an area of knowledge that I want to know more about.😃
More specifics- or just point in the right direction please- about how to get to that level of knowledge- I realize it won’t be easy, but I’m willing to give it an “over time” go– learn it slowly and correctly.
Great thread

Again- Thanks for the nice comments. You can’t believe how tentative I was to post a video……… (let alone how tough it was because I didn’t know what the hell I was doing).
Shi and Justin— I remembered what an old friend told me about playing “in front” of people- (I assume it’s the same in videos too)- He said “You have to able to not care if you make a fool of yourself– and just laugh it off”. (Note- He’s played in sort-of-well-known bands in our area for decades- he is GOOD). He said to just make up my mind to do it……… and let ‘er rip!!!
It’s weird—– I practice for ACCURACY- but play with more recklessness- hoping my “practiced” brain-memory will carry me through. It only works sometimes for now🙃.
Maybe you can see that in the “loose” way I play compared to others in here. My fingers are flyin’ everywhere, and if I flub something up– just keep going! Over time, super-accuracy will come- but for now– “lettin’ ‘er rip” works for me.
Botton line——– go for it.

Thank you for the nice comments. Still needs a little work, yes, but I’m trying to push myself with a l-o-n-g-e-r video, for focus and concentration. When I’m just playin’, I play straight from memory, and that’s tough enough for me- especially long vids. The longer a video is, I assume the harder it is to make it “through”. Pretty evident, here, as the last damn chord was a trainwreck😅. The LAST DAMN CHORD!
I gotta figure out a way to have better sound, too…….
Thanks again, all— I’m tryin’…..

Do you all think it’s best to “early-learn” a song using power chords- and then kind-of transition over/embellish(?)—- or better to start out learning a song straight-away using bar chords- (maybe a little slower process?)?

Kitman–
Two things– (least important one first)
1. Well, I’m a little embarrassed– there I was in a previous thread giving YOU advice😜! 2. Man– that was nothin’ less than fantastic! THAT is where most all of us want to get to someday I think. Me for sure. I am also a huge fan of the Avett Brothers- their music is, well, like THAT- quirky, cool, simple/fun.
That was great! Thanks for giving us another “brass ring” to go for.

That was great!- I think I could some Willie-Nelson-like sounds in there… (?)
I’ve just kinda missed the boat on the whole improv part of TAC- and I’ve gotta fix that.
Great stuff- Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic, right there👏👏👏. Are you following along on the “tabs” and then improvising all the cool strumming-pattern stuff, riffs, picking parts, etc?
Man, I would love to learn what you have done there. Great.

Kitman–
Welcome to TAC!- (it was a GREAT choice….)
My two cents—– (remember that opinions are like rear-ends…. everybody has one……
Be patient with yourself. Can’t tell ya how important this is…..
Focus on FUN……. and realize there will be times when this seems less than fun. Accept that…….. It’s all good….. work thru it.
Focus on ACCURACY over speed– speed will come.
Lean on us here in the Forum- we’re here to help, not judge. We’re all in the same boat.
Explore the whole TAC website– There is a LOT of really-REALLY great stuff in here! Dig….. deep.
Do the nuts-&-boltsy stuff– with no shortcuts. None.
LISTEN… (really L-I-S-T-E-N)- to the beautiful sounds you are making– both good and bad– and learn from both.
Pat yourself on the back with a “win” when one comes along. You earned it!
Do the Daily’s- no slacking! They stack on top of each other. Like climbing a ladder– one lesson sometimes is a harder version of the previous one.
LEARN the chords and transitions- (extremely important). Forewards and backwards. Go deep here.. deep. Focus on moving efficiently between chords. This is the cool stuff. Remember that learning guitar is a marathon, not a sprint.
Goof around with things- EXPERIMENT on your own….. “add” to the lessons and skills courses however you want…… Do weird stuff….. your OWN stuff……..
Now…. go…. have fun!

Wow!– Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement!
Full disclosure- I probably deleted 10-15 oops’s before I actually made it thru- even this short section. Funny– I can play that in my sleep……but when “the camera’s rollin'”– it’s harder. (Does anybody else think so????)……….
Again– thanks……

The Avett Bros’ songs are indeed great. My faves- No Hard Feelings, Backwards with Time, and Murder in the City. I’m sure there are more………..
Slightly-tilted-orbit kind of tunes😜 that I love!

Thank you for the nice words!
Funny- I can play that tune in my sleep- with more things than the video showed- but I’m learning the “video” part of all this– and it shows……
Again- thanks-

You’re welcome.
Remember- these suggestions are what work for me- for where I’m at in my journey.
Mold or tweak any of these you want to fit where YOU are and where you want to go.
But there is one that applies no matter what- and it’s not even on my list!
It’s Jeff’s last three words—- “play play play”.👍 Keep it light, keep it fun.

There are actually two different videos- This one, and a “Finally” one. Same tune- but they are different. I like this one better- it’s a little “smoother”
Thanks again for the nice comments!
