As another VERY lapsed dabbler I am doing essentially what others recommend but being a rebel from the 60s I am doing it like this: 30 days to play, at the same time doing the skill courses followed as of this week the daily challenge. It’s been just about a month and I’m feeling much better as well as regaining and adding new skills and ideas daily

Muting with my thumb is in the future as is palm muting. I really want get into folk blues finger style with independent thumb while playing melody but that may be quite a way down the road

Very cool.at the new age of 78 I’m liking getting back into it after about 40 yrs or so. Mostly old bob dylan, folk songs and maybe a little Gordon lightfoot. It’s good to see older folks in here. I absolutely LOVE the tac atmosphere and positive reinforcement!

Thanks so much. I’ve had a tendency to only do “proper” ways for guitar but now I realize as you stated that is most important just to play the music. When I think of folks like Elizabeth Cotton or Lightning Hopkins as well as even Tony Emanuel they made MUSIC in all sorts of wonderful ways.
