Why I'm Here

My Dad taught me to play 3 chords… G-C-D… on a plastic toy ukelele when I was 8 years old.  I didn’t know the names I just knew when to put my fingers.  I must have played that transition of 3 chords for about a year, thinking I was playing a song.  Finally I actually learned to play “How Much is that Doggie in the Window”.  I kept playing that plastic ukelele for a couple of years while I saved my weekly allowance money to buy myself a real guitar.  Got my first 6 string when I was 10 years old.  I continued to play on my own, playing by ear and taught my BFF to play as well.  I heard someone playing a 12 string guitar a few years later and immediately fell in love with the sound.  I knew that would be my next goal.  I bought my first 12-string guitar when I was 13 years old and have never played any other guitar since.   Me and my BFF played together all through High School, in many little local talent shows, Girl Scout camps, Fund Raisers etc etc.  Neither of us ever had a formal guitar lesson and neither of us knew the names of chords or even the strings for a long time, just knew what fingers to put on which string.  Over the years I made of circle of musician friends and we all taught each other different things that we each knew.  I did not play alot after I went to college then became a Nurse working in a major Trauma Hospital.  The long hours of nursing certainly put an impact on my energy for daily guitar practice and I lost contact with most of my guitar buddies of my youth.  I am now 63 years old and back to playing my guitar every day and trying to learn new stuff.  I’ve still never had a formal guitar lesson.  I consider myself a pretty good guitar player but there is so much yet to learn which is why I decided to join Tony’s Acoustic Challenge.  So far I am loving it.  I now own (4) 12-string Guitars, an Ensenada, a Yamaha, and (2) Taylor Guitars.  I currently play a Taylor Grand Auditorium.  I still do not own a 6-string so some of Tony’s challenges are very tricky on my 12 string, but damn they sound good once I get it!

City

I want to improve my guitar playing simply for my own personal satisfaction.  I want to increase my skills and knowledge and thereby please myself and bring some joy to others around me.
