You could always give @jorgemac ‘s suggestion a try: tuning your guitar down 3 half steps.
quoting jorgemac:
“I like the tone of heavier strings but don’t like the fact that the strings take more finger tip pressure to produce that fuller tone of heavier strings.
I started with 10 gauge strings and now usually play .013/56. I found as i increased the string gauge I could put less tension on the strings if I tuned the strings down a half of a note to 1 1/2 notes per string. Much less string tension meant no sore fingers as my tips got used to the heavier gauges.
One of my early rock guitar hero’s was Lonnie Mack, A Memphis picker who was a huge influence on Stevie Ray. i noticed in his song books that he tuned his guitar’s Strings down up to a tone and a half when recording. While trying to learn his songs I began tuning my guitar down to try and emulate his sound. Never did actually copy his tone but i did learn how to tune down my guitar and found I liked the bassier tone this created.
I am currently playing .013 strings and am tuned down 3 half steps, treble to bass C#,G#, E, B, F#, C#. as I like the tone. It is easy to tune your string down if you have a headstock tuner on your guitar. This is an easy way to avoid sore finger tips when to increase the string size on your guitar. Just tune it down for a week as your finger tips will have less tension when holding down the fretted notes. Then you can tune it up a half step a week until you reach normal tuning. I can just capo up if playing with friends and they like the different tone my guitar has to their guitar tone. A nice blend of different guitar sounds.
It is hard to tune lighter strings down more than a half step, as they do not adjust to the less string tension as well as .012’s or .013’s do.”

@dwalter16hotmail-com sounds like you have momentum! So important to get on a roll and stay on it. You’ll run into road blocks as a player, but Tony structures things so there’s always something you can focus on besides the obstacle. In the meantime your brain figures out how to navigate the road block while you are not even aware of it! This has happened to me umpteen times, suddenly I’m able to do the thing I absolutely couldn’t before, when I haven’t even attempted it for quite a while! That’s what makes Tony’s approach so magical.

So you’re checking the action on your E strings at the 12th fret, looks normal?
Define buzz, do you mean literally a buzzing sound, or a muted sound? What chords are we talking about and are you fretting close to fret wire whenever possible. Understood with some chords your fingers are in the way and you can’t get close.

A few Things:
1. The couch may not be the best place for you, that depends on your couch and whatever is going on physically in your shoulders and spine area. You might want to invest in a proper chair for playing or try another place where you can sit with optimum posture for guitar playing. I bought a new office chair to play in. The arms can be raised so there is no obstruction. I do play on my couch also while I’m watching TV, but usually only for a few minutes at a time, then I’ll set it down. Also, my couch is firm and quite high off the ground, so it gives me plenty of support. You wouldn’t want to play in a couch that you sink into.
2. I would check out the warm up exercises (Daily Stretch for Guitar) here: https://tonypolecastro.com/skills/
3. Did you have pain in this area before playing guitar or is the playing that has triggered this issue? You may want to get yourself checked out.

Welcome @gmcoates101
Getting started is a huge win! This is the best place to stick with it, TAC brings you the right lesson every day to keep you on track and progressing. Just do your best everyday for at least 10 minutes and you can’t help improving!

Welcome back @Tsuyako Sandy Dunn!
You’re not going to get off that easily, you must tell us more about your journey. When were you here last, for how long?
Perfectionism is your enemy, you must fight that plague with everything you got. Just show up every day and try to get a little bit better! Don’t measure yourself against other players. Everybody learns differently and it simply takes time. Don’t hesitate to ask questions here, plenty of TAC members who have gone through what you are right now and are willing to help you!

If this issue is bothering you please report it to support@tonypolecastro.com. It bothers the heck out of me and I’ve reported it repeatedly. Here is the response I received:
“Hi again Pete,
It may help to understand that we do not have an in house IT Team. We employ a Company. As such, we are not able to bring issues to them that are not affecting – if not the entire TAC Community – at least multiple users. Otherwise, we are advised of troubleshooting options, as they do monitor all aspects of the site for us constantly. I hope this helps. I understand that it is frustrating not to have your posts go through consistently.”So their Tech Team apparently monitors the site but they don’t test things like if a member can post or not.
“The IT Team monitors the site for technical issues, such as the site going down, Members not being able to log in, etc. They do not post comments.” -
Haha, I have the exact same!

@gmcoates101 I just want to follow up with this:
Don’t worry about doing the entire “lesson” when you get to the Daily Challenges! Some days are gonna be HARD!! 30 Days to Play is the warm up phase, depending on which week you start in, it could be a big jump. Just approach it with the mindset: “I’m gonna learn something today, even if most of the video is out of reach.” Do at least 10 minutes and mark it Complete! Even if you did a single measure or just strung together a few notes, if you played the challenge for 10 minutes you completed it!
This is so important! So many people will quit because they look at the entirety and it’s out of reach. It’s meant to be that way! Some people joining have been playing guitar for 50 years, and they still can get something out of it!!
AAAAAND: even if it’s not working at all, nothing but struggle, you are still learning! It will get better next time. Next time might be a week from now or a month from now when the same skill is taught. Then the challenges themselves repeat every so often. It all goes in cycles.

@Berndog you should have no trouble posting once under the challenge each day. It’s the second post that will fail on you.
To lodge a complaint just email support@tonypolecastro.com

You’re welcome @JonnyGee
Please don’t interpret my posting of the video as the authority on how this should be done. I said above (right below the OP’s question) that I knew of a way that works for me. I think there are a bunch of ways to do it and I’m just offering up my method.
Cheers! Keep on rocking!

I have a tripod setup in my office specifically for recording guitar videos, but I have it kind of locked in as it comes through the wiring hole in my desk. In order to shoot that shot I had to straddle the corner of the desk and lean into the camera while trying to hold the guitar at the optimum angle. It was good for video but not so much for me as the player. I need to figure out a mounting setup that is more flexible so that I can record any angle I want. This has actually inspired me, @BarbaraM
Thank -you!
