Yes, I would like to add playing with others to my routine next year as well.

The other thing is to greatly improve my chord transition speed.

The reviews seem good but they are old reviews, nothing current:

So I don’t think YouTube or Zoom would be adequate to jam because those platforms have significant delay. I did a google search and found something quickly, but I haven’t done any research or tests on this platform called Jamulus.

I don’t want to get ahead with “Old Man” cuz I’m already old enough! Lol!
Merry Christmas from this old man!

Thanks for all your responses! Wish you all a very Merry Christmas! I’ll be taking a short break from playing due to travel but should be back at it by the 27th!

It’s challenging to do both, you have to be much more familiar with both the melody and the lyrics to pull it off.

Many lead vocalists in rock bands actually have (or had) guitar skills but would rarely play while singing on stage: Sammy Hagar simply wouldn’t play guitar while lead singing and he explained: “if I try to do both, they suffer”. His predecessor, David Lee Roth, has in fact donned a guitar on occasion. Robert Plant could play but did not while Jimmy Page was on stage with him. I’ve seen video of Mick Jagger awkwardly playing guitar on stage, but immediately stop playing when he started singing.

More often than not lead guitarists don’t sing or sing primarily backup vocals. (Pete Townsend, Eddie Van Halen). A select few can seemed to do both with ease but I imagine it comes from doing it a lot from a young age (Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, John Fogerty, Peter Frampton, Joe Walsh, S.R Vaughn, Mark Knopfler, Lindsey Buckingham)

This is my second time through and it’s a bit a struggle still for me.

Monday’s challenge: not pleased with how much I struggled with making clean modified chords. On the D chord I’ve got mutes all over the place as I go through the modifications. The C actually went better, I think the last time my C was worse. G chord was not doable with the pinky on the high E, substituted the ring finger and that worked but doesn’t allow for the modifications in the exercise. F is still pretty much a cluster; the win for today was that I can actually sound an unmodified F mini every now and then, but doing mods and coming back to F-mini is a no go.

Tuesday’s challenge: I’m working on sliding from the NY chord down to the D major. It’s getting better but I’m still not up to speed on it. I am only doing version 1 (starts with base note) completely, but experimenting with version 2 (hammers). I can do the first hammer ok but the second hammer to form the D-chord is completely impossible for me. That ring finger just doesn’t come down with enough velocity while I’m holding the other 2 fingers in their respective positions for the D shape = no hammer effect.

Wednesday’s challenge: This is a lot of scales to learn. I’ve got the D-major under my fingers but I’m not finding it enticing to keep plugging through the rest of the scales after already spending close to 30 minutes on the first one.

Good to hear that you may be close to starting to shake off some rust and get back in the game! Merry Christmas Loraine!

So it’s strange that it has gone in the opposite direction for me. I am literally tuning my guitar down every few days because it has gone sharp on every string. This has been the case for about 3 weeks now since I returned from my vacation. The guitars are always in the same temperature controlled room, and don’t move more than a few feet daily.

This is good, thank-you. Quick transitions have been a struggle of mine also.

The comment area is back! Most likely the disappearance was part of the maintenance yesterday (which I didn’t know was happening when I started my post here in the Benchmark forum.
