Why I'm Here

I have enjoyed music all my life but never tried to learn an instrument.  I always loved guitar and the drums.   I tried guitar in my teens but it was too painful on my fingers.  It looked so easy but you really had to press hard.  I gave up.  I tried the drums and never got out of the gate with one snare drum.  However, I did play the drumsticks everywhere around the house. I still listened and grew to love a wide variety of music, mainly rock from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.  In the 80’s I bought a really nice Les Paul from a friend and I vowed to learn it.  I never really got started.  I still have that guitar and have carried it through my life.  That guitar is like a window into my past.  In 2012, I got the Les Paul out, I purchased an amp and started again, but this time with the help of the internet.  Due to all the volume, I purchased a Rogue acoustic for about a $100 and finally started this journey on an acoustic.  I learned open chords and tried to make some music.  I took some in person lessons but nothing really clicked long enough to show any progress.  After many internet instructors and tons on click the yellow button deals, I came upon TAC in 2017.  The structure within TAC is exactly what I needed.  Instead of a DVD packed with lessons, TAC presented a lesson plan that I could only do on that specific day.  I did not like it at first as I wanted to know it all right away.  You know: unlock the secrets to being a great guitar player in one weekend.   Now I know the secret is a fantasy.  I learned that progress is measured in finishing a lesson and doing the best you can with that lesson every single day.  I stay with TAC because of the structure.  I have to have a plan and stick to that plan or else I am off in too many directions.

Playing makes me happy–it’s fun.  I have played with others,  performed at a virtual open mic and now am working on original songs.
