I’m the last guy in the picture. I just learned how to change strings last week. The guitar sure sounds better. I put on Ernie Ball Earthwood Lights.

Very nice job! I wasn’t familiar with the song, but I like it and it seemed to fit your voice well. Nice steady rhythm with the guitar and chord transitions.

I personally try not to mute the high e-string, it is after all a note in the chord. That doesn’t mean it always gets played, but I like to have it available in case it is.

I’ve been playing for a few years now and still haven’t gotten up the nerve to play in front of anyone, including my wife. I have terrible anxiety about it. I’d rather go to the dentist. I apologize to any dentists out there. I just had an opportunity to play for some friends the other night, and I declined. They had the guitar out for me and everything. I’ve been kicking myself for once again not participating, but I think I’ve kicked myself enough now that I’m ready to try next time.

As for the issue with playing better some days than others, I think we all have that issue. I know I sure do.

Having said all of this, I still very much enjoy playing guitar by myself in my den. I am however, ready for the next step.

That was great!! Your playing is so fluid and it is very impressive how you keep that bass going while playing the treble strings. Really excellent job.

Congratulations. Sounds like you’ve really been putting in the work and it is paying off!! Thanks for the inspiration. I’ve been really lazy about playing lately.

One thing that may help would be to start at a higher fret, say the 5th or 7th fret. As you move toward the body of the guitar the frets get closer together thereby reducing the stretch. I too have small hands and this helped me. After you are able to get the stretch at those frets, just keep at it and work your way toward the headstock over time.

Another thing that I’ve found helpful is to raise the neck of the guitar up higher. In other words, raise the neck of your guitar so you are holding it up higher toward the ceiling. It will seem odd, and maybe look even more so, but you should be able to get a better stretch in your hand. I’ve had it almost perpendicular to the floor trying to do some big stretches at the first few frets.

Very nicely done. Inspires me to learn it, but its probably above my pay grade right now.

That was fantastic. My goal is to get here at some point. For now, I am able to play the scale over the track, but not yet having much luck making anything musical on my own.

Tricky, but as you see, doable with practice. This is how I learned the chord. It is like playing the open A chord as a bar instead of three fingers on the second fret (strings 4, 3, and 2). But since you are playing the B chord in this example, the barred fret would take the place of what were the open strings in the A chord. This is why it is called the “A” shaped B chord. You are definitely getting the theory.

Your theory is spot on. I didn’t explain it very well. By not muting it, I didn’t mean I was playing the G# (4th fret high E string), I am bending (some may call it contorting) my ring finger to let the F# (2nd fret high E string) that is part of the bar ring out if I choose to hit that string. So the notes would be B, F#, B, D#, F#. It is a little more complicated and takes practice, but doable. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks! Improve is my biggest issue as well. We will get there.
