I think I have answered my own question. I was not getting the pattern but I think I have it now. It is a two measure pattern. D–UD-D—-UD-DU then repeat.
-
My theory only works on the first six bars. Then starting with bar six D-DUDUD–UDU-D-DU

I don’t feel that I am getting any better unfortunately. It is disappointing. I am trying to have fun but it is hard when I’m just stumbling and not progressing.

It is still very hard but… I’ve been looking at the action on my guitar. Its a GSmini Koa-e I bought new from Sweetwater in ’22. I measured 0.120″ on the low E and 0.090″ on the high E. The closest authorized Taylor tech is in Pensacola, just over 100 miles from my home in Panama City, FL. I took it there in case new shims were required for the neck, they could do it under warranty from Taylor. Dropped it off on Saturday. While I have been complaining I have been very good at consistently practicing every day. Being over 30 day without a missed day I didn’t want to loose any momentum so I asked if they rented guitars. When they said yes, I asked if they had any Taylors and to my surprise they had one Academy 10e.
So… having already been looking at other guitars I agreed to rent their Taylor for two weeks. I knew the Academy series guitars had a great reputation as being very popular for newer players and that they typically use light strings. The GSmini uses medium strings. When I got home I was surprised to learn that I could now successfully perform the pull-off that was driving me crazy. It isn’t perfect but it works. So I don’t know whether it is the lighter strings or a better set up guitar but I’m not as discouraged as I was at the end of last week.

You’re not alone here. I figure that it will come to me eventually. Every once in a while, something just clicks and I have a light bulb moment.

Thanks. I’m over it now, I know what I’ve done and I don’t have to impress anyone but me.

@jumpinjeff thanks for the encouragement. I appreciate everyone who tries to help me and others here. This week’s frustration comes from that darn F chord where the high E and B strings are barred. When going through the lesson and I get to the F, I get hung up trying different ways of contorting my fretting hand to make it each string ring clear. I’ve worked and worked on it. Not just this week but many weeks and I can’t get a clear chord to ring clear. All this said, I still prefer TAC to any in person lessons I have had before.
