I appreciate the kind words; thank you everyone

Apologies if that was too self-promotional. You are probably right, I’ll stick to benchmarks going forward. Working on a better way to record. Anyone have any recording advice?

Great advice here! I love what you say in your profile, you wanted to play one song, now you want to play all the songs! Same here! My taste in music has drastically expanded thanks to TAC. I picked up the guitar to play and sing one song, I am the Highway, by audioslave. Now I play that pretty well, and I’m obsessed with blues and learning fingerstyle and sending my wife love songs at work! I love this journey, and don’t forget to record yourself. If you stick with it, you will be stunned by your progress in a few months!

@petelanger great insight about the symmetry! Little mental pictures like that help me a great deal!

Yeah, I both “had lots of fun” and struggled! I love finger-picking but it is at least five times harder than strumming! Especially when the string your thumb is thumping is adjacent to the string your finger is picking, it’s really easy to let the further finger fire first, even if it’s not supposed to. My biggest “hack” here is to listen to a measure of the play along, close my eyes and play it ULTRA slow, then repeat it till I’m up to speed. Often, I have to treat the transition between two mesures the same way (learn counts 1 through four-and of measure n, get it down, do the same for measure n+1, then treat count 3 of measure n through 2-and of measure n+1 as if it were its own measure, learn THAT, then I can practice those two together. Then add the next measure, etc. takes longer, but it’s usually the transitions that get me, especially if there is a hammer on or pull off or something that connects the measures!

Yeah, thank you. I’m still not sure it’s really totally hit me. It was totally out of left field. I got some great support along the way from friends, but a lot of the hard stuff was me just plucking and feeling.

That’s amazing! I can’t wait to see (hear!) where I’m at then! You should take enormous pride in that consistency. Fender did some kind of informal study and found that 90% of people who take up the guitar quit within a year. That puts you in at least the top 10 percent!

That’s awesome! I’m glad you embraced a chance to put yourself out there!

I’ve been playing since December. I think I started getting into fingerstyle in late march or so, once strumming chords started to click. I’m loving it, but it is a challenge!

Another episode of Alternate Tuning Tuesday! This week we look at drop D
-
Latest playthrough of this piece, there were a few slowdowns but there were a couple bars that sounded better than ever!

Sounds great, especially on the arpeggios! Keep it up!

Welcome aboard! I love the same style, I think Mississippi John Hurt is my favorite. He gives me the impression that he is a genuinely kind and calm man, like the Bob Ross of the blues! Gary Davis is amazing too. I can’t wait to hear you play some blues!
