Why I'm Here

I bought my first guitar the day I graduated from college as a gift to me.  I bought it from Sam Ash in New  York City.  It was a Yamaha hummingbird knock-off.  I learned 3 chords and it went under the bed  where it stayed for over 30 years.   I loved browsing in music stores and eventually bought a Fender 50 th anniversary stratocaster that went under the bed with the Yamaha.  I always wanted to learn to play but never seemed to have the time with family and career getting in the way but I never forgot my desire and I never sold or gave away the guitars.  About 2 years ago I decide to really try.  I tried private lessons but could never consistently make the time and missed more lessons than I made.  I tried online lessons with minor success but I rapidly plateaued at a very low beginner level.   I felt my learning was hit and miss and although I could memorize, I wanted to understand the how and why of the music. I stumbled across Tony and the TAC and I now have practiced every day for over 2 months .  It can take me up to an hour to succeed at some of the challenges and often it is at the slow and rarely the medium speed but I’m having a blast.  Even when the daily challenge is fairly easy, I end up with the guitar in my hand for about an hour.  I can see and hear the progress and now I look forward to my practice time. I wish I had signed up for the fretboard wizard but was not sure if it was too advanced for me.  I look forward to signing up for it in the spring.    Although I can be a perfectionist, I have not let that interfere with the fun of learning. I am slowly getting faster and stronger and cannot wait to see where I will be at my one year TACiversary.
