  1. Thoughts on flat picking vs finger picking for this section? My flat picking sounds terrible, as I can’t cleanly hit just two strings, but it sounds much better when I use my thumb & index finger to dual pluck.

  2. This lessons are great. I play guitar and I can read notes and know well the fret, but I come from Europe and I am learning the vocabulary mostly. Tony has a great talent to explain the basics of HOWS and WHYS

  3. Tony, Right now I am loving the idea of ending on a good note. Over the years I have read many music books. I am enjoying how the puzzle pieces are coming together for me. Between Fretboard lessons and your TAC courses the light bulbs are brighter than ever My biggest hurdle is plugging in the time for me

In the very near future I will definitely be spending way more time practicing and going through your videos

Thanks for everything; I have been trying to find something that would motivate and be as detailed, succinct and easy to follow

Its never to late to learn to play

    Thanks so much

  4. I love having Tony actually demonstate finger/fret positions and plays s l o w l y what we are to be doing. Camera on guitar position (not that I don’t want to see Tony) but so I know what he is saying and what it means. I got the Tab down! Yahoo!!! Thanks!!!!!

  5. Really really enjoying the lessons so far and I’m actually excited to practice everyday. Question, I don’t like to use a pick when practicing and instead i just use my thumb, is that an issue?

    1. Meghan,

That will absolutely work 🙂 I will encourage you to give a pick a try, but if it just feels to foreign right now I say two thumbs up for the thumb 🙂

      Cheers,
      Tony

  6. Hi Tony I liked the speed of this backing track…I can actually play along at this speed. Yay! I didn’t see you use the riff you taught during this jam. Can you explain how and where you’d use it? I was hoping to be able to include it.

  7. I started learning some chords 5 years ago and its taken a long time to get comfortable with them. I wish I had started with a good foundation like this rather than hand jamming some random youtube tutorials.

  8. This is a good exercise, I am not doing the A chord like Tony, but i working on that finger form from time to time. Of course chord transition is crucial when playing any song.

  9. Hmmm, not sure what I did there but managed to get the progress bar to admit I have completed all the lessons…maybe it can hear me and thinks I need to go back and do it again. ;D

  10. That last comment was about Marijn comment about Bar 13 of Adding Spice. Didn’t think to make that clear in my last comment.

  11. Yes, you are right. It should be a B and not an A, and the tab should be on the A string second fret. That would make the 0 a 2. Good catch. I played it right according to the pattern though.

  12. Thank you for going through these rudimentary things…as I was watching the video, going through the motions, I was struck by two songs right away that are composed with A, E, and D- Log Cabin Home in the Sky by The Incredible String Band, and The Rolling Stones tune No Expectations (and there are many others, no doubt). This exercise, this lesson, teaches me to slow things down and make sure the foundation is solid. Thanks, Tony!

    1. Wouldn’t the string noise be bothersome, I am talking about steel strings of course; nylon shouldn’t produce any noise.

  13. On my A chord, I feel more comfortable playing my index on the d string, the middle on the g string and my ring finger on the b string. Then when I slid to the d chord I just slid ring finger to the d note , is that ok?

  14. On my A chord, I feel more comfortable playing my index on the d string, the middle on the string and my ring finger on the b string. Then when I slid to the d chord I just slid ring to the d note , is that ok?

  15. Tony, just a note of thanks. I grew up hearing my Dad playing these very patterns. My Dad died when I was 6. I have always wanted to learn how to play and hearing these progressions and learning step by step is not only fulfilling from a learning perspective, but gives me great joy in knowing that I’m learning to play like my Dad. I don’t have a lot of memories of him, but this is definitely a good one. Your methods are so clear and you make it easy to follow and to successfully progress. Thanks! Sandy

    1. Sandy,

Thank you for your comment and great job digging in and learning. It is so awesome to hear that this is fulfilling for you in so many ways!!! Keep up the great work and the positivity!!!

      Cheers,
      Tony

  16. Bar 13 of the tab contains a little mistake. The third beat is not an open A-string, but is fretted on the second fret as part of the E-chord, so there should be a 2 instead of a 0.
