That is a perfect explanation of why to take this song slow. I have played it slower than the recording, and I can here those overtones. They seem to go missing when I play it up to speed. I know that’s just the lack of experience in technique. Very awesome song and an awesome challenge to learn.
Much of the notation is incorrect rythmically. For instance the pickups as played resolve to a downbeat of the next measure. As written they don’t. Just not good consistency and a detriment to learning.
Wow, a great song and will be the first for me using dropped D tuning. Up to now all the dropped D tunings have just been licks, which since they are so short I never bother, since I don’t like to have to retune the E string, lazy, lol.
I like the second version Tony did also, gave the song some pizzaz. As for me, I am just focusing on flat picking now. I get frustrated with the finger picking and my fingernails are not good for it.
One thing about the videos was that they did not play well on my macbook pro. They were stopping and starting a lot so hard to listen to. I just concentrated on watching Tony play the piece in sections. I would watch the slow part for each section. I am excited to learn this song by heart, which is my goal.
Andrew,
I am so glad that you worked your way through this tune and like the arrnagement!!! Keep up the awesome work!!! My apologies about the videos, we may have been uploading at the time which caused the hiccups.
Cheers,
Tony
Still working on but getting there. Thanks for the breakdown and different speeds of playing. Enjoying this format of learning.
This is a great song and lesson .I really really enjoy it. I must say that it has taken a lot of practice, and will need a lot more to get it to the right speed. Having Tony play it at the 2 speeds in this final session is huge. Thank you.
I love the new format…but for some reason I can’t click completed on Angelina 1, 7, 8, and Congrats. Using an iPad.
Working on it! Thanks for reporting this.
