Thanks Fly. When I do the challenges I like to establish a benchmark speed that allows me to play the exercise cleanly and clearly. I usually use a metronome and add 10bpm at a time until I start either muffing the routine or can get through the notes but the sound isn’t clear. On the easier warmups I can use the new speed adjustment on the website. I usually like to check myself without playing along with Tony since his strong play often overshadows some of my mistakes. But not using the metronome for everything is saving me a bunch of time.
Bottom line is I would rather play slow and clean than fast and rough. I have learned the hard way that it is tough to get a good clean sound once you get used to playing something sloppy. It works better for me to get it right and then slowly ramp up the speed to where I start having trouble keeping it smooth and clean.
