A gentleman who is definitely a guitar geek running what I think is a 1960’s Gibson Country and Western through a Fishman Loudbox Professional (or something like that) while I’m drinking bourbon and eating brunch. What a great day to be a guitar geek. Just gave him a tip. I didn’t ask if I could take his pic so I just posted the restaurant instead.

Update- very nice gentleman by the name of “Filthy” Rich MacPherson running a 1962 Gibson Country and Western with some mojo through a Fishman Loudbox “Artist”. What a nice guy. It started raining so I volunteered to help him save his gear from the rain and exchanged information. After over a year of not getting to play with fellow guitar geeks it’s awesome to make a new friend!

Sorry for the many posts, but…I’ve just been invited to the open mics that happen here at 5PM on Sundays. Really looking forward to TAC practice as I get ready to come back to live performing since 2012. Small win = new friend and jam night.

Wow – right around Head House Square. Very nice. I haven’t been down that way for about 3-4 years. I hope you had a great brunch.

And great of you to tip the musician. I do that pretty regularly. A few weeks ago, I saw Tom Kozic (my original guitar teacher – awesome player) and Brian Bortz (fine bass player) play at the Twisted Olive (you and I connect on a “twisted plane,” perhaps?). When I tipped them toward the end of their set, it sparked a few other people to come up and tip. One guy had requested a song (and they of course obliged) and I honestly don’t think he would even have tipped them until I “greased the skids.”

Thanks for sharing and happy to hear from the famous Dr. Dave! If I can afford it/have cash at the time, my wife and I always try to tip good local musicians, especially at restaurants or on the street. We’ve been in Philly since 2016 (my wife) and 2017 (me). It’s great to meet great acoustic guitarists in the area. My original guitar teacher is Daniel Verbeke, presently of Matamoras, PA (formerly Hawley, PA), and if I ever saw an ad to see him, I would visit, tip generously, and at least buy him a beverage/catch up.

Was so excited to see such a nice player with such great gear playing in the world. And so great of him to invite me out.

There’s a big guitar geek community by you. Perhaps post something in one of the forums?
