The elusive C cord
Posted by csharpusa on August 11, 2021 at 7:28 pmI have literally spend a couple of months, reading every explanation, doing every exercise under the Sun, even on
Acoustic Challenge, and I am unable to strum a clean C cord.the-old-coach replied 4 years, 7 months ago 5 Members · 4 Replies -

I don’t know why but that one was always my worst sounding cord too. One try strumming softer on the strings. Two try not to play the high E string. Do most of the strum on the bass strings

Hi Cliff ( @csharpusa ), I’d like to start by saying welcome to TAC – We’re glad you made the choice to do your guitar journey here👏👏👏 I believe as time goes on, you’ll see that you made a great decision. That being said, let’s talk about that C chord. The typical problems with making a C chord have to do with the arch that you can make with your fingers over the other strings. Typically that involves moving your palm (of the fretting hand) around to different positions to create the arch necessary to allow the fingers to get over top of the other strings so you’re not touching them. There are other things to consider also, but I’ll let those details up to other TACers to discuss with you👍

If your guitar’s action is real high, then it could be contributing to your Open C issues. Maybe string gauge as well. It’s good to have a pro set-up your guitar so you can at least take those variables out of the equation a bit 😉
My 2 cents 🙂

No expert here for sure, but maybe try something like this…
Try going —TO– your C chord —from– a similar-shaped chord- like maybe an A-minor or “mini” F. See if that works.
Might be easier for you than just tryin’ to grab a C chord outta nowhere from a dead start.
Welcome to our TAC family!!!
