  • What next after first 30 days?

Posted by Alison B on February 6, 2022 at 3:27 am

Hi everyone, I was very proud of myself for completing the 30 Days to Play challenge. That was about a month ago, and since then I have made sure to put in at least some time each day to repeat the lessons and have definitely improved. But I don’t know where to go for the next step. I would like some simple lessons about chords and I definitely enjoyed the 12 bar boogie. I think I need some structure. Any advice?

The “5 Day Guitar Routine Challenge” is the recommended next step by Tony.

    Enjoy!

Hi @alicbowtell@gmail.com , congrats on finishing the 30 Days To Play challenge. IMHO, you should do the “Next 6 Chords” course and then try one of the “Jumpstart” courses (there are 3 different Jumpstart courses). After that, try any of the 2 pages of Skills Courses & Challenges that interest you. There’s a “Blues 5 Day Challenge” and a “12 Bar Blues 5 Day Challenge” as well. This is your journey Alison, and all the Skills Courses are available to you (except Fretboard Wizard – that is a course that’s purchased separately).

Good luck with your journey Alison🤩

Following on Alison’s question, I’ve also just finished the “30-Days to Play” and the “Next 6 Chords” and was having the same question, so I appreciate these suggestions. I haven’t mastered all that material, but I was able to learn and play it all pretty well (except for the Barre B chord! 😖).

I purchased the “Fretboard Wizard” when I originally signed up for TAC and I assume it’s available to start whenever I’m ready – so I’m trying to figure out when it should fit in to my development plan? Recommended to work thru some of the Jumpstart or 5-Day Routine collections first, or go ahead with Fretboard Wizard now?

Thanks for any further comments on this line of questioning.

Hi @Ron49 , welcome to TAC. The idea here isn’t about mastery of the material, It’s about learning and understanding the material as presented (which you have done) as well as developing a consistent guitar playing routine, and having fun doing it. Over time, you will see progress – everyone here has for sure, without a doubt.

I think it’s great that you purchased FW, and you can start it any time you feel. For me, I felt I needed to “bone-up” on some of the technique courses before doing FW (YMMV). To be honest, I felt a little intimidated at first, because I thought I didn’t know enough of the basic music concepts to attempt FW, so I put it off for a little while. (I later found out I was wrong about that). Then I came across a Skills Course titled “Foundations of Fretboard Navigation” – well, after completing that, the thirst for more fretboard knowledge pushed me to start FW. I really gained a lot from FW although it didn’t all sink in immediately. So that was my journey leading up to FW. But this is your journey Ron, I do recommend doing Foundations of Fretboard Navigation before starting FW, but it’s your journey, and you can take the path that you want. Just remember to have fun👍
