My week of small wins with a question for the fretboard wizards

Every week I sound out 5 melody lines and write down the notes and list them here as a record. Tonight I did Joy to the World (a song that I really could not stand back in the day, but now seems fun in it’s exuberance) but I could not get the 1st note to sound right with a major scale. I found I needed to start it on the F sharp…so I pulled out a capo and put it on the 2nd fret. The song ended on the 2nd fret past the capo ie B or what would be an A if you pretended the capo did not exist.

So the notes pretending there was no capo were eddddbdbdeddbddedbagabagabgaag edbaggdbabgbddedbgaagbgaag

So what key did I play this in? is it A?

Other songs this week included Alice’s Restaurant, It’s My Party, Toreador, Smiling faces.

Challenging win this week @Brian2501 ! As for what key the song is in, I haven’t a clue. I’m not the best at figuring out keys and notes, even though I’ve gone through FBW.

Hi @Brian2501 , I really like your learning method! I looked up the chord chart and it looks like the song is in the key of D. 🙂

This week I sounded out the melody line for Fair thee Well, Dravot’s farewell (Man who would be King) Les Filles de Camarais, If I were a Bell (Guys & Dolls) Sunshiney Day

I thought this week of challenges was a fun …the wins were there albeit quite small!

Did you learn the Chord Matrix yet? Once you understand how to make them then you understand the key of the song & why

Its in the Fretboard Wizard. Maybe Tony posted a YouTube on it. It unlocks the chords to whatever key you are working in. Handy little tool. Used it in my songwriting just this week. Needed to know the minor chords lol
