Yesterday was an extremely frustrating one for me, guitar-wise. I’m sure all of us have those days where no matter how determined you feel, or how hard you work at it, nothing seems to want to fall into place! I’m struggling with some fingerstyle lessons and wondering if my fingers will ever cooperate enough to get this stuff! But then I saw a post by a fellow TACer expressing frustration over the daily challenges, and somehow that made me feel lots more encouraged, knowing I’m not alone on this wonderful but often agonizing journey! Not so long ago I probably would have abandoned my guitar playing for days or weeks over this, but TAC has ingrained the attitude of persistence and gratitude for each of the “Small Wins” we achieve. Thanks, Tony, and all you fellow TAC fam folks!

That’s what I like most about this community is the encouragement to keep going! Progress happens at a steady pace & persistence will get the job done! Keep at it w the finger style! I used to get frustrated too!. Keep strumming

Thank you, BethL! TAC sure is a marvelous community, I find great encouragement in reading of other members’ progress and success stories. The finger style stuff can be maddeningly frustrating, but I intend to keep plugging away. Maybe part of the trouble is I get overambitious and tackle pieces that are probably a little too advanced for me, but sometimes you just want to push yourself a bit, right!?

I have found that when I got frustrated with playing something it was best to put the guitar down and take a break. I found that when I returned to it later, it was much easier to learn and play it. @
GerryB56 we have all been there at one time or another. Just keep at it. 😊🧙‍♂️😎

Thanks, Marty! I agree, sometimes it helps to walk away and distract myself with something else for awhile. Hope your recovery is going smoothly.

Thank you @GerryB56 Still on the mend and waiting on the next step after the 1st of the year.

I have been playing when I can and managed to record something cold turkey that I may post this weekend. “Dueling Banjos” 😊🍸😎

    Gerry-

I’m of the opinion that if you’re not feeling frustration once in a while along the way- you’re not pushing yourself hard enough. Remember- this is Tony’s Acoustic Challenge, right?

Dumb comparison of sorts— Golfers pay WAAAY more money to play a golf course that’s WAAAY harder than a “blah”, easy, course. Because of the challenge……

There ya go. We’re ALL here because playing guitar is a challenge we all enjoy.

Hey @GerryB56 , yes, you are right we all have those days. So glad you found the inspiration from the TAC community to “play through it”. There are many pearls of wisdom in the community posts. Great win!

Side note, I am also learning about finger style guitar as part of this 90 day cycle. Building that new mental and muscle memory is taking some time for me. I have started each step in the Skills courses at a very slow BPM and work at that speed until it seems my fingers know where to go and what to do. There is a lot going on between fretting and picking! If it takes me days that span a couple weeks I stick with it. I can see my comprehension and competency beginning to grow – proficiency for me will take some time.

I also make sure each day to allocate some time to enjoy playing something I know how to do. For example – run through a couple songs. This helps with my work / reward thought process and keeps me coming back. 😎🎸🎶
