I often pull out my electric on weekends (when there aren’t daily challenges) and play along with ‘Jam Tracks’ on YouTube. Yesterday for the 1st time I played standing up. Whole new dynamic. No slouching over to look at fingers, frets, etc, guitar vertical, and able to move shoulders, arms, etc more easily. And the win was that I did OK!

Awesome! I keep promising myself to try playing in the standing up position, with strap, but so far the few times I’ve tried have not been very successful. I find it hard to control the neck from swinging away from me. But I wonder if my posture would improve doing it that way, not being so hunched over watching the fingers?

    Bugmeist and Gerry–

Wow- I agree that it’s a whole different thing- it’s way harder.

Something to get used to for sure.

I gave it a try maybe 6 months ago…….. for about two days. Thought I did “just fair” at it…….. haven’t been back.

It was fun to me- mainly because it was “familiar”— but also— SOOOOOO different!

Your posts reminded me that it’s something I need to work on!!!

Hi @bugmeist , to me, standing up is great. Particularly when singing familiar songs (I say familiar because they’re the ones I can play all the chords without looking). For me @GerryB56 , I like to have my strap set so the body of the guitar is sitting closer to my chest (instead of my belly) and I keep it so the neck is about a 30 degree angle to the floor instead of perpendicular – that way I have great control of the neck (standing or sitting).

Great win @bugmeist . Getting accustomed to standing and playing is definitely a journey in of itself. I am pretty comfortable doing it with an electric. The acoustic is a different kettle of fish. I need work there!

    Congrats on your win!
